In My Lifetime

a lot of music - some good, some not so good. I purchased this because it seemed to be the only place I could get 'The Story of My Life'. I enjoyed hearing the hits; not so much some of the remakes of the songs I was familiar with. Maybe it didn't need to be three discs.

This CD set is just what the title says. It starts out with a number of selections that were recorded when he as just starting to sing. They start when he was a child and then progress into, what sounded to me like, high school years. As you might suspect, his singing during those early years was not his best. However, as the program progresses, the songs get more listenable and finally begin to sound like the Neil Diamond you remember from "The Good Old Days". Overall, an enjoyable listening experience and a musical journey back in time.

I've seen Neil in person 3 times and I am so glad I did, as all of us are getting older, and the song by George Jones "Who's Gonna Take their place", is the question I'm waiting on.......so far NO-ONE.......the same for Neil Diamond.......there are a few who might think they will take their places, but I haven't heard one.......IN MY LIFETIME is a great CD, but you know by now I'm a Diamond big time fan, and I think I have all the Neil Diamond records, cassettes, CD's......and guess what, Kenny Rogers was in our home town last Weekend for a Riverfest show, and he is another one.......whowilltakehisplace.....no-one..ever. Well, I finally got old enough to let myself buy and listen to whatever I want whether or not it's considered "cool". I rememberd I always enjoyed the earlier Neil Diamond classics when I heard them on the radio years ago, and then I wondered why I never actually bought any of his music.Some may think that this guy is corny, but let's face it, he's got a great voice and he wrote some classics, and the arrangements are often excellent too, so why not load up on Neil Diamond at this price? Anyway, I looked at all the options, the greatest hits CDs and various compilations, and I settled on this one.I must say it's great to hear these old classics without the DJ talk over the beginning and the end, and on a high quality sound system. It's also great to hear some of his not so well knows stuff thrown in there too. It's plenty listenable, but I won't get sick of it quite as much as if it was just the "favorites" one after another. Great stuff!

This is a great collection of Niel's greatest hits. It follows his incredible talent from his first appearance on the scene until 1996. Almost all songs are from albums, not live appearances. The commentary that Neil gives for each song really is interesting and adds to the understanding of how the song came to be. Most poignant is the original taping that Neil had with his young daughters as he was writing "Its a beautiful Noise" followed by the released recording. All Neil Diamond fans should find the gathering of over 70 Diamond songs in this collection well worth the price.

In my lifetime tells a story of a man who has quietly crafted an amazing collection of romantic/soulful songs.There are 3 disc and disc 3 is my favorite followed by disc 2...the first dics is excellent for collectors.All the the greatest hits are here and the previously unissued songs are superb in production.As an audiophile,the mastering was important to me and with SBM(super bit mapping)the sound quality is great.So,for the money this is the best Box set available....better than all of the other collections out there...Grab it or forever hold thy mouse.

Great collection from a great star - poor Neil has Parkinsons BUT his music will stand the test of time. This collection can no longer be bought new unless you want to take out a second mortgage - this very cheap and great value.

Absolutely epic. This 3-disc CD contains most of Neil Diamond's well-known classics, as well as a couple of ad lib tracks. Fabulous music, vocals and lyrics. A must for any fan. I am delighted with my purchase and would buy again.

It was good, but not as new

This is one of the best collections of Neil Diamond material available. Neil's gifts as a performer and songwriter have always been admired and this collection delivers in spades. The sheer range of quality music is breathtaking. Neil Diamond deservedly has a reputation for excellence and that can be heard here. I can't recommend this 3-disc set highly enough - it's just wonderful!

Während der Bestellung der 50th-Anniversary-Zusammenstellung bin ich auf eine Rezension zu In My Lifetime gestoßen und sehr froh darüber - drei CDs mit zum Teil unveröffentlichten Aufnahmen, dazu zu jedem Titel die Info, wann und auf welcher LP er erschienen ist (auch bei den unveröffentlichten wird das Entstehungsjahr angegeben), und überhaupt ist das sehr liebevoll gestaltete Booklet mit seinen 72 (!) Seiten und sehr vielen Fotos grandios und enthält als I-Tüpfelchen Kommentare von Neil Diamond zur Entstehungsgeschichte jedes einzelnen Songs. I like!!!

Es ist immer problematisch, die alten Hits von Neil Diamond in der erinnerten Version (meist die Radio-Songs)in einer Box zu haben, da der Sänger häufig die Plattenfirma wechselte und die Rechte nicht in einer Ausgabe versammelt werden können. Ersatzweise wird dann mit Live-Version aufgefüllt, die manchmal mieser Aufnahmequalität sind. In dieser 3-CD-Box stimmt die Qualität und es ist auch die höchste Dichte an guten Studioaufnahmen zu verzeichnen, wie diese seit der Jugend noch im Ohr sind. Lediglich ein wichtiger Song fehlt: The last Picasso.Über Stimme und anspruchsvolle Kompositionen des Sängers muss ich an dieser Stelle gewiss kein weiteres Wort verlieren, denn damit ist er zweifelsfrei ein Aussichtsturm mitten im Flachland dieses Genres. Erstaunlich und empfehlenswert ist auch die DVD von seinem New-York-Konzert von 2008. Der beinahe 70-jährige Mann bringt immer noch das Publikum im Madison-Square-Garden ins Toben, dass es bald die Wände raushaut. Irre gut, der Typ!!!

Nun bin ich zufrieden. Die ganze Zeit war meine Sammlung unvollständig - jetzt nicht mehr. Dank der guten Qualität und dem günstigen Preis ist nun alles ok!

Great classics

Having grown up with my Dad playing Neil Diamond, mostly on cassette in the car on holidays, and recently got the stage of life where I prefer Radio 2 to Radio 1, I wanted a Neil Diamond CD of my own. I soon realised why the music I grew up listening to was a mix of studio and live recordings - he switched record companies 3 times. Hence there are probably dozens of compilations, none of which do the job that this 3CD box set does. It comes with sleeve notes on each track and has a real personal feel to it and as such takes you on a journey through his career. I have added 12 songs and Home Before Dark subsequently and the quality of tracks from the earlier years made me go out and buy albums such as Hot August Night & Live at the Greek which I guess is what you would want from a compilation

Dieser umfassende Überblick über die vielen, vielen gefühlvollen Lieder von Neil Diamond ist einfach WUNDERSCHÖN. Erstmals war es möglich, die Studio-Aufnahmen bei verschiedenen Plattenfirmen unter einen Hut zu bringen ! (Die bisherigen Compilations litten darunter, dass aus urheberrechtlichen Gründen manche Lieder nur in Live-Versionen wiedergegeben worden sind.) 3 CD's randvoll mit erstklassigen Aufnahmen - fast ohne Füller. (Auch unter den bisher unveröffentlichten "In My Lifetime"-Songs auf der letzten CD sind einige schöne Nummern.)Einer der gefühlvollsten und romantischten Sänger der Popgeschichte (zutiefst melodiös, ohne kitschig zu werden) - wieviele Paare werden sich wohl bei seinen Liedern nähergekommen sein ? Wunderschöne, ruhige Lieder - eine sanfte und doch kraftvolle Stimme : eine Sternstunde der Popmusik.DIE Musik für gefühlvolle Stunden alleine oder zu zweit ...

Wenn man Neil Diamond so mag wie ich, ist die CD-Sammlung eine sehr gute Ergänzung zu bereits vorhandenen Songs. Viele Titel auf den CD's sind nicht so bekannt, viele seiner ganz großen Hit's sind nicht enthalten - leider! Wenn man seine großen Hit's wie ich nur auf Schallplatte hat und diese gerne wieder hören möchte, sollte man sich vielleicht diese Sammlung zuletzt zulegen, sonst ist man ein wenig enttäuscht. Ansonsten ein Genuß!

Auch für mich eine gute Zusammenstellung der Songs.Die Disc Nummer drei hat besonders beschwingte Songs.Der Song „just need to love you more“ ist ein so heiterer Song.Die Musik, Gesang und Text Stimmig hoch drei, Der Text ist hier besonders von den Lauten gelungen.Da ist der Künstler Neil Diamond sowieso ein Meister..Diese Leichtigkeit hab ich noch bei keinem Song wahrgenommen.Da kann mancher Sommerhit eins drauflegen.Bin also wieder einmal voll begeistert.Und es lohnt sich auch die älteren Alben zu kaufen.
