Are my forks seconds?
The build quality on the majority of the fork seems good but I believe the forks I received may well be seconds as the majority of the spot welds securing the end caps next to the fork feet are missing. I would like to see seam welds all round but Firecloud assure me a few spot/indent welds are good enough. However on my forks the majority of these indent welds are missing and the resulting gap is clearly uneven. Whilst these defects may not be initially structurally dangerous, the forks will not be as strong as they should be and therefore not be as efficient at resisting the many varying multi-directional loads the forks will undergo dealing with the many bumps and jumps a mountain bike will make in normal use. In any event, items marketed as new should be in perfect condition at point of sale, so mine are going back. After a few pictured emails Firecloud have invited me to send the forks back, but as yet have not suggested who pays for this.Update 10-4-2018 I sent these pictures of the faulty fork to Firecloud and told them I am not satisfied with a less than perfect new item. However they are not satisfied that these pictures provide enough evidence. They say they don't have any way of collecting the fork so want me to arrange and pay for its return. I don't think a customer buying a new item that is clearly less than perfect, should have to do this.
