Compatible, well made, ideal for iPad and headphones in the car.
Belkin quality, very good sound quality and completely compatible with my son's iPad Air. Great for headphones in the car whilst charging the iPad via the Belkin's USB C port. Much better value than Apple's own product whilst equally functional and totally compatible. What's not to like?

Pretty crap
The simple adapters which don't provide power to a phone often work differently from this using what's known as "Audio Accessory Mode", where really all they do is take analog audio out of the phone. What that means is that the digital to analog conversion has happened in the phone itself. E.g the phone's own DAC is used. However some adapters may also work by having a built in DAC instead receiving digital audio.Since there is no such mode in USB-C as "Audio Accessory with Upstream Power" devices like this are forced to be data devices, appearing as USB peripherals, being what we'd often call a sound card, audio interface or DAC. Whatever we call them, they have a DAC inside them. The trouble is that the quality of the DAC can be terrible and vastly different from the DAC inside a phone or another adapter. The DACs in these devices are terrible, offering a really flat uninspiring sound, at a volume which is too low. They are good enough for speech, so watching a film with mostly dialogue is OK, but sound horrible for music over headphones. The are nonetheless useful if you are forced to listen via headphones or plug into amplification whilst charging a phone but if you have plenty of battery left, then just use the adapter that came with your phone/tablet if you have one.I keep this device in my wired headphone case, but never ever use it.

An excellent product.
This product has two sockets, a USB-C socket (e.g. for plugging in a charging cable) and a 3.5mm audio socket (e.g. for pluging in a headset cable). At the other end of the cable there is a USB-C plug (e.g. for connecting to a mobile phone). This allows a headset to be used at the same time that the mobile phone is charging, if the mobile phone only has one USB-C socket and no other sockets.

Failed to charge devi
Failed to charge device when in use. Attempted a replacement through amazon but they fob you off to the manufacturer, for manufacturers warranty. Completed belkin warranty claim online, but despite being promised by email ‘We have received your request for a warranty replacement and will contact you within 3 to 5 days’ no such contact has been received. Not very good service from either Amazon and Belkin.Update - got a call from belkin support *finally* and it transpires that a USB-A to USB-C cable is not supported - which is why it wsnt charging reliably.Make sure you use a C - C cable.

Not fit for my purposes
I have tried using this to connect my rode wireless mics to my mobile iphone. Unfortunately, every time I have used it the connection doesn't seem to hold securely (even though the transmitter is attached to a phone holder) therefore the video interviews recorded using the onboard mic rather than the rode mics. Only good as a headphone jack in my experience
