Drift... Ever deeper into darkness
The inspired but skeletal tracks on 'Evanescence' have undergone digital necromancy, giving rise to an organic, slithering mass of low frequency with an irregular heart beat. Some may prefer 'Evanescence' due to its familiar character in terms of earlier Scorn albums. Make no mistake though -- 'Ellipsis' eclipses 'Evanescence' as something much more remarkable. The overall vision of this album is adeptly realized, with each track complimenting the others flawlessly; which isn't surprising, considering most of the mixes (and certainly the best ones) are by Mick himself. Even the foreign contributions integrate perfectly. The result is a fascinating and very creatively mixed variety of beats and samples, pervaded by a dense, malevolent darkness. The only track that departs from the theme is the final one, 'Light Trap' -- but this looping masterpiece provides such a soothing denouement to the experience, one can hardly begrudge its inclusion. It is the best use of a repeating rhythm that I've ever heard, accentuated by ethereal, subtly varying samples that both soothe and stimulate -- like a warm breeze in the dead of night.I consider 'Ellipsis' to be the gem of the Scorn catalog, so existing fans and newcomers alike are encouraged to obtain it without delay. Likewise for any who prefer the dark.

The disc that introduced me to autechre
Years ago, before I ever heard of autechre, I was listening to this gem of a remix CD by scorn (in addition to the amazing gyral and evanescene CDs). The autechre remix of falling is awesome and I had never heard anything like the beat programming they used on that remix. At the time, there was much hype and hoopla over autechre's seminal and ground breaking release tri repatae which I immediately picked up and soon after became a die hard fan. One great artist introduced me to another. Unfortunately scorn's music over the years got less and less interesting. This is worth picking up for the autechre remix alone.

Shove me into oblivion.
This remix is "heavy". It's probably not for everyone's taste regarding Electronic/Ambient, and even though I don't usually like the very heavy stuff, this album stands out as one of my top 25 in my collection. It's energetic while at the same time being laid back, if that makes any sense.I just like it. It's industrial, it gets me moving, and yet it still zones me out.

Some headline are reinterpret Evanescence tracks+ some. Coil, Ae and MBM fans check this out!
Bought this for the MBM and Coil remixes, but several of the other contributing acts add their vibe to make this more varied than the original album, the relentless Evanescence. Some may find the treatments, which in some cases are primarily the new artist with a few well chosen Scorn samples added, too divergent in style, but this is a good companion release and works surprisingly well as a dubfest!Bill Laswell's dark dub of Night Ash BLack, from an earlier album, is both incredible and almost unlistenably disturbing, due to the film samples used, and Autechre do their thing.Varied and interesting, even if you are not a Scorn fan (I'm not really).
