Firm and sturdy, exactly what I wanted. I put a memory foam pad overtop and it works perfectly.

The mattress itself is ok, but it does not ...
The mattress itself is ok, but it does not work well on the futon frame I purchased to put it on. It is extremely difficult to get the futon to fold into either of it's sitting positions. I would have appreciated a heads up that not all size futon mattresses will work on a futon frame.
