Here's a unique way to interest youngsters nine and older in World War I. The eleven short stories here were inspired by objects the authors connected with the war. The are common items (a toy soldier, a compass, etc.) but in the hands of a skillful writer they become the inspiration for each memorable tale. Once the youngster has read the book ask him/her if NOW he/she would like to actually know more about the war, why it was fought, etc.Jim Kay provides some excellent art to accompany the stores. NOTE: Many adults will find this a captivating read also. Read this with you child or afterwards and then discuss it.
