Octavia the Octopus has an Ostomy
B**K
A great book for any kid who will be getting an Ostomy, or knows someone who will be.
A great children's book that is ideal for children who will get an ostomy or know someone who will get one. The author is a nurse who deals with this sort of thing every day, and you can really see that she cares immensely for these kids.

Great for a child
Was perfect to explain to a young child what a Ostomy is.

Children’s book
This was a very nice child’s book to learn about their moms ostomy.

Dont bother...
Awful book. My 3 year old was about to have an ostomy fitted, so I thought this would help in preparation for what to expect. The wording is terrible, the illustrations are even worse. Not quite sure how this book ever got published but it shed little to no light for him what to expect. 7 weeks post ostomy he got the book back out, and still disagreed that the octopus has an ostomy because it looked, in his words, "ridiculous"

Very good book
Used this book to explain to my son aged 5 about his up coming Stoma operation. Very well written and explains very well.

Unclear and not super helpful
I find the fact that the octopus doesn't have an abdomen and thus wears a bag on her head confusing for children. Also, there's more mention of passing air into the bag than stool. I'm unsure how this would help a child better understand life with an ostomy bag.
