Red Heat [DVD]

Average Blu-ray of a very underrated film.
Despite being overshadowed by big budget works like 'Predator' and 'Terminator 2', 1988's cold war, cop/buddy movie 'Red Heat' is easily one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's s most enjoyable romps, with its brilliant mix of action and comedy. The sound quality of this 'Optimum Home Entertainment' Blu-ray is very good, but the picture is a real mixed-bag. Some of the daytime shots look stunning, but the night scenes (which make up a large chunk of the film) are generally very grainy and lack sharpness. In fact, the two bonus documentaries ('Arnold Schwarzenegger - The man who raised Hollywood' and 'Political context of Red Heat') have better picture quality than the film itself! However, this Blu-ray is still an improvement on the old DVD issue, though the aforementioned docs are the only special features present and add up to a mere 25 minutes in length, making this a pretty bare bones release. As the 4K issue of 'Red Heat' remains fairly pricey (and apparently still suffers from grainy visuals) this Optimum Blu-ray currently represents the best value for money and is recommended to fans of the film.

You're not looking for Shakespeare if you bought this.
And that's a good thing, because the closest thing Arnold got to Shakespeare was The Last Action Hero. What you are getting is an excellent, not-at-all believable 80's buddy cop film. If you're looking for the plot, it's here.Bad Russian does a bad thing, Good Russian turns up and puts bad thing right while outsmarting all the Americans, then goes back to Russia. It is, however, excellent fun, full of the snappy one liners that made Arnold films superb in the 80's and with genuine moments of acting from all concerned, which wasn't expected, but was welcome.

Showing it’s age...
Son had not seen this one and after I had raved on about it being a real “classic” we rented out.Funny how so many “classics” we remember don’t stand the test of time!

Excellent movie, great blu-ray quality
What can i say that hasn't already been said. The picture and audio quality is fantastic from the transfer. It's like watching a brand new movie throughout. Some movie transfers are lazy and whoever is in charge doesn't seem to do a good job with other movies, this is an exception amongst others. You all know the story by now, and if not it's in the product description above anway, so i won't go into that. Movie is good, a classic Arnie. His background from travelling to Germany and living in Austria in his youth has helped with the accent.A good movie, worth seeing.

Now is 100 time better when german channel pro 7 showed that movie.I like it bicose it old fasion no PC simulation no GCI and so natural thing in movie .in present time in the movies is PC GCI and lots of fake staff not natural things .In old movies is more natural then present time movies. And i like that movie with story and sound .

Red Hot 80's action
I love a good 80's action film and this seemed to have passer me buy. Purchased on a whim at 2.99 and a great little movie. It has all cheesyness of a classic Arnie film but with some good humor (although the main bad guys accent is horrendous). Well worth a watch.
