A tool that does work
Works as advertised. Easy to use. Rugged, survived a 10 foot drop with no damages or mars. Fit all the uses I intended it for.

It Actually Works
Was skeptical about this scanner but it actually works. Bought in the Home Depot based on the HD reviews. All of the other zircon stud finders had mediocre reviews at best. This particular model had excellent reviews. Brought it home to see if the reviews were true and they were. Unknown what they did with this particular model but it works where the others do not, and I tried many. The color coding on the screen is a nice touch as well, maybe in doing that the system works better. Who knows? But I now have a useful stud finder and not a dud.

Mostly good, almost 5*
I install medical equipment in doctor's offices as a profession, so I need accuracy and reliability when finding studs. My old i65 worked well for 5 years (and still does), but it has taken a beating so I decided to upgrade *before* I get stuck without one. The HD900c is just as accurate, and has the fancy colors that are completely unnecessary but gotta admit it looks cool! Actually the color does serve one really good function, when getting close to AC in stud mode. My old one just showed a black icon that was very easy to overlook. This one changes the whole screen red and you cannot miss it. I did have issues with the actual AC mode at first, but I broke down and read the directions. They do make known the trick to AC and it works well - you have to start the calibration in the air away from wall, find the ac detection, calibrate again, so on, until it does become super accurate. The only mode I`m a little "iffy" on is metal. Yes it detects nails in the wall, but I don't have a metal pipe to test so for now I`ll assume it's OK. This new unit is much bigger than the old one, see comparison pic. Pretty neutral on that, although I`ll need to find a new spot in the tool bag.I do have 2 complaints. First, see the rubber layer surrounding the old one? It is beat up from drops and getting thrown in a tool bag etc. The new one has no rubber lining on the top half, so I`m a little concerned about the long term durability. Also detracting heavily from 5* is the small calibration button. What gives? The i65 was too small IMO, but even that was much better. Have they done customer research studies and found most of their customer base have tiny fingers? I don't understand the thought process here. It is sooooo easy to let go of the button on accident, causing re-calibration more than should be necessary. Give me 30 minutes with an engineer and we'll have a far better design in place. But, maybe it will cost .50 cents more to manufacture?

Good stud finder
Good stud finder. Much better than most. Still has some limitations on rough surfaces (and for sure on lath and plaster). The electric finder is a great plus, but not real precise. The metal detector is precise, and allows finding nails or screws. A good product. Recommended.
