Great little book!
This was purchased for my 9 yr old granddaughter, and she loves it! I have just started working with her on the basics of hand sewing & hope to have her using a machine soon. The book's format is age appropriate & offers great explanations. The illustrations & projects have held her attention. We are looking forward to many fun summer projects, and I highly recommend this little booklet for any beginning stitcher!

Wonderful Book!
I bought this for my 11 year old granddaughter along with a sewing box with everything she needs to start hand sewing. This book is perfect for her. It has easy to follow instructions and great beginner patterns she can trace right from the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who knows a child that would like to learn how to hand sew.

Not sure I will but too many books anymore
Again, for the price, it should be hard bound. I would of never paid the price I paid if I would of seen product in like a book store. Great insides and information though.

learning to sew
This is basic enough writing that my 2nd & 3rd graders can read all by themselves and follow the directions and teach themselves many of steps. Now, I made them read all of the pages that were just about the pieces and parts of sewing too, before they could start and I suggested that they make their own "sampler" fabric, to practice, before they began a project. They have immediately showed me how they are doing and decided what they like and what to make. Instantly proud of themselves and each other! They did well and had to read, and follow directions, self-motivated learning! Well done!I only wish there were a few more patterns/projects and maybe one or two more stitches described. It's even been a great refresher for me about the basics.

Not as clear as expected.
I purchased this for my granddaughter to encourage her skills at sewing. I know the basics, and found that even knowing the basics did not help make this easy to follow. I think the author assumes some skill on the readers' part, and since this is a beginner book, I think she should really start with the fundamentals. Will use it to augment some hands-on demonstration.

Excellent book for helping children to learn sewing
This is a lovely book to help children learn how to sew. It's also quite suitable for an adult novice. It gives very clearly explained instructions for basic stitches - straight stitch, blanket stitch, backstitch, overstitch and slipstitch - as well as how to thread a needle, sew on a button, use pins, and cut fabric using a pattern. Everything is really well explained. There are some fun projects to practise the stitches taught. Effort has been made to make it a book for girls and boys alike; throughout the book, there are cartoon figures of boys and girls giving useful sewing tips. The presentation is lovely with cute sewing-themed illustrations and the paper's good quality that won't dog-ear or tear easily through heavy use. Very instructive and fun to use.

Not impressed with this thin paperback at all. I think it's the first thing I have returned to Amazon and did receive a prompt refund with no issues.

Very very basic book, with half of it devoted to skills such as threading a needle. Very few patterns and ideas. Dissapointed
