This is a nice knife that fits my hand well and has a good wooden (looks like walnut) handle angle and length. The blade is thick enough for the tasks I ask of it. It is well thought out and functional angles, the scandi bevel is easy to sharpen and it cuts very fine shavings...but is also able to split wood easily when batoning. Thin and light, it is still a sturdy cutter that is comfortable in the hand with no hot spots. The spine of the blade is square and sharp edged producing good results when powdering wood or striking a ferro stick. The blade is versatile, able to perform all of the tasks I set it to. The knife comes with an excellent sheath that holds the knife snugly while still allowing an easy draw. The leather quality and stitching are top notch and there is a round that holds a small diameter ferro rod that is also included. The included rod has a small knob that makes it easy to hold, but I still prefer a long and thicker rod. The steel is 1066 which some consider to be fairly soft, but it takes an edge quickly and holds it well without deforming under stressful conditions. I keep mine oiled, carbon steel rusts when left wet too long. This brings me back to the sheath, there is a drain hole in the bottom that is either part of the design or simply a product of the design...either cause, the sheath can drain if immersed in water. If you are looking for a good knife for practicing bushcraft, the utility and design of this one will work well!

The stand-out feature for me is the spine. It's sharp and rough enough to strike fire steel rods better than a few of my dedicated fire steel strikers. I threw sparks over 6 feet with it. The rest of the blade is decent. It's my first 1066 steel knife, so I have no experience with its durability, edge retention, rust resistance or difficulty/ease of sharpening. It's a drop point with a smooth belly (perhaps good for skinning?) and a scandi grind, about the same thickness as a Buck 119, and sharp enough out of the box to make feather sticks. However my 119 is noticeably sharper and makes feather sticks more easily, so there is room for improvement. Fortunately that highlights one of the scandi grind's strengths: easy field sharpening. Can't wait to try it. Beyond the blade is an excellent handle and sheath. The wood handle is well contoured, smooth, and very comfortable. A little thin for my hand (XL), but the length is about perfect. No pommel; instead the butt of the knife smooth, allowing you to comfortably push hard with one hand and twist with the other. Great set-up for tasks like making bow drill divots. It's way more comfortable than my dedicated awl. The sheath is very thick leather that grips the handle tightly ... very tightly. I'm hoping it loosens its grip with use, because as-is I need both hands to draw the knife. Overall it's a great piece, but when you add the fire steel and consider the price, this is a home run.

BPS just nailed this one out of the park. This is the first BPS knife I have ever owned but I can say this will start a new collection for me. The knife came sharp with a wonderful scandi grind. The handle is just amazing. It fits so well in your hand and is perfectly balanced. It feels sturdy but just the right weight. The fit and finish of the knife is just so perfect, no edges to catch your nail from the full tang to the wood handles, a perfect 90 degree spine and just a lovely look. The sheath is a thick genuine leather with multiple attachment options from direct belt attachment or with the dangler. It comes with a great fire steel or fero rod and a place to store it right on the sheath. If you are looking for a great budget bushcraft knife I would highly recommend this option. You will need to maintain the 1066 carbon blade with oil to prevent rust because it is not rust resistant (or force patina for rust prevention) but for the value, ease of use and functionality of this you cannot go wrong for around $45. Get one you will not be disappointed!!

Don’t get me wrong. It’s a very functional knife. There was no lanyard on the knife or the ferro rod and neither were inserted into the sheath. So it isn’t form fitted. That’s not a problem. Shove it in and wait over night. I wrapped the handle in paper and stuck it in the sheath so it can form a tad larger for ease of use. But the blade looks like it was not ground to completion and looks like someone tried to hand sharpen it, I don’t think that’s the case though. So it was sharp but not razor sharp and some parts of the edge were sharper than other parts. But I enjoy sharpening knives so I’ll tackle that tomorrow. Now I did hit it on a leather strop about 10 strops on each side and that did help a lot. It will shave hair with ease now. The handle is plain wood. No treatment but the fit is nice and tight. I can stain the wood or polish it, just depends on what you want. So for a scandi grind, high carbon steel blade, for the price, it’s a good deal. The backbone of the blade is a very nice 90° angle and sharp and it will strike a ferro rod nicely. I tried that and it’s great. The leather sheath is good leather but no drain hole. I can fix that with a small drill bit. Now I’m guessing had they fixed all this before shipping it out, the price could easily have been more than doubled. So I’m good with it as I can work on it and sort of customize it to my preference. Has a good feel in my hand too. I can’t give it 5 stars due to all I listed above, but it has the potential to become a 5 star knife with a little time and again, I enjoy these things. It’s not heavy but it’s also not light. Meaning it feels like quality material. Balance is around the front handle screw. Definitely a keeper.

A handsome, solid build with a nice sheath. A worthy consideration for affordable, and relatively high quality components. It’ll serve me well.

Bought the first one, the sheath sucked but the knife and fire steel were great. Got this version and the knife and sheath are awesome! Very quality... and the back is still sharp and should strike a fire steel well... not this fire steel tho it sucks. otherwise the package is amazeing.. Im giving it 5 stars because of the value for what you get. replace the fire steel tho. EDIT: apparently you need to scrape off a decent amount of protective coating on the fire steel before you get to the good stuff, and then it strikes very nicely. 10/10

This is a great knife. The DBK boys and BPS really hit this one out of the park as far as the blade itself is concerned. However, despite being very well made from thick, richly dyed leather, the sheath leaves a lot to be desired. The retention strap does nothing to hold the knife secure in the sheath. As demonstrated in DBK's YouTube video featuring this blade, you can shake the knife right out of the sheath with very little effort. Luckily, this can be easily remedied. The BPS sheath that is available for sale here on Amazon currently for $17, the one that comes with the B1 and the BS2 models, will also fit the DBK knife. It does ride very deep in the sheath so that only about an inch of the tang of the knife is exposed, so I'd recommend a lanyard to help with that, but the B1/BS2 sheath is otherwise snug and fits great. The included firesteel is a nice diameter, throws good sparks, and is put together well. It's a great bit of kit easily worth half the asking price of the entire package. For the fifty dollar price tag, this is a phenomenal value. I'd have rated this item 4 stars if the factory sheath weren't at least functional, but it does work even if it doesn't have good retention so I'm giving it full marks.

I’m sure it’s a great knife but I must’ve received a lemon: - the stock/tang/blade arrived slightly bent, see video - the finish was partly un-finished under the handle scales, see video - the sheath’s top rivet wasn’t set properly and fell off, see video - not a huge deal, as I’m sure it would go away, but the sheath smelled like fish oil - wood handle scales smelled bad (probably normal as from my little woodworking experience some woods are naturally stinky) + handle felt good in the hand + nice thick leather sheath + nice pattern blade and handle As I said, I’m sure I got a lemon, but QC should be better.
