Swissmar Borner V-1001 V-Slicer Plus Mandoline 5 Piece Set (Orange)

Bang for buck this is a great mandoline set. The plastic is holding up well - which honestly surprised me as I use it a couple times a day on average. After a quick cleaning I am a big fan of how the blade attachments and mandoline fit into the 'case'. Even better is that the case has the little safety lever before the mandoline can be slid out. While kids could definitely figure it out (they get into childproof locks faster than I do) what it does do it 1) slow em down - no way they can get it open while I'm in the kitchen too and 2) if knocked over the blades don't fall outBeyond the overall design the blades are great - I don't bother with the plastic piece to hold down what you are slicing I use cut proof gloves instead and highly recommend using it that way - those 'hold down' pieces never work well for me!

It's my third Bonner slicer,I've tried the others,and noting was as good and easy to use.I bought my first one in Germany in eighties and after many years of use I needed the new one,now don't remember what was wrong,probably the plastic broke.I didn't know I can get it in U.S. ,so I tried what was available at stores and nothing could match.Then I found my second one in some Home Expo,many years ago,it still works,but some plastic broke,so It stand a little unstable,it has stained plates,so I decided it's time for the new one.Its not cheap,but worth the money ,simple,easy to use,easy to clean,easy to store,with really sharp blades,but safe to use.

definitely a sharp blade worthy of your respect. It slices and dices large piles of veges without taking or space or costs of an electric food processor. Despite being cautious every time, I feel safe with the large hand guard and good design. Easy to spray wash (never used soap). I cook very large batches of soup and other vegetables every once in a while and won't go back to knife for this work.

Despite this being my second copy of essentially the same mandolin that I use almost every night for making salads and fried potatoes, there is a learning curve each time you get a new machine. I cut my finger, yet again, on my first use!!! Be very careful to become masterful with your fingers and the glide aid (use it!!!). I cut 5 slices of tomato to make a salad most evenings. The single medium stem-on tomato usually is used two evenings and the second evening I use the 'convenience' holder so that I do not slice my finger on the second half. This time I was doing the first five slices which I usually do free-hand. Big mistake!! I have hopefully learned my lesson and have forgiven my beloved 'new' mandolin and will continue loving it but will healthfully respect its sharpness yet again.

This product arrived undamaged & without incident. I absolutely love my new V-Slicer! I own 2 other V-Slicers. One from the 70's & one from the 80's. And they still work great! I simply wanted a new one. This product works great. For those who don't like this mandoline, I suggest you watch a few YouTube videos on how to use it properly. It is extremely sharp & you must be careful or you risk cutting yourself. I am a fan of Swissmar & Börner products. Make sure you have an original & not a knockoff. These products aren't cheap & flimsy. If you get a stain on it, a little bit of bleach will do the trick.

This is my 3rd purchase: the1st one I left in another country, the 2nd one I bought for my daughter in law and the 3rd one - for myself, finally! Very happy with the product.

I got rid of a more expensive slicer because it was so complicated to unassemble and assemble for cleaning and changing slicers. This slicer is very user-friendly and does a good job.
