Interactive Modeling: A Powerful Technique for Teaching Children

This summer I investigated the Responsive Classroom approach for use this school year, and this is one of the books I purchased. While Interactive Modeling seems daunting at first - I wrote out scripts and reflected following the Interactive Modeling steps - I'm impressed with the effectiveness of Interactive Modeling for explicitly showing students what is expected. Interactive Modeling makes a difference - I've realized that students are not as clear on what to do and how when I haven't used interactive modeling compared to when I have! Interactive Modeling is no doubt something many veteran educators do instinctively, but for a new-ish teacher like me, it has been useful in setting up a classroom that runs smoothly.

Liked the simple examples.

I was familiar with interactive modeling but this book takes it to new depths for me. Allows one to read and practice and fine tune based on the coaching and examples shown.Highly recommended. I am an elementary art teacher.

This is a concept that does work- it helps children have a clear mental model of what doing school looks like, sounds like and needs to feel like. It is well worth the time to read and then implement.
