Fast, Efficient, but also Loud
Fresh ground flour, spices, and coffee can make a huge difference in the quality of a meal. We began hand grinding grain a few years ago. The result was more flavorful baked good. It also changed how we stored grain and flour. While we will always prefer hand grinding over electrical grinders – for control and physical conditioning benefits – there are times when an electric mill just makes sense. As we’ve started scaling up our baking we looked at a number of options, including installing accessories on our stand mixer. In the end we decided to go with a purpose made device. We went with the simple, proven, durable design that tower style electric mills have shown themselves to be. With a high speed grinding motor, a timer, and a base that has a pivot hinge to make emptying the grinding chamber easy, the Greatrue SUS304 ticks the boxes for a home use or very small café use grain mill. The system includes cleaning brush, replacement grinder blades, and replacement tension springs. The first thing you will notice when operating the mill is that it is very loud. This is not something you can expect them to work around as the milling chamber is going to produce some noise and a high speed engine capable of turning blades fast enough to shatter coffee bean shells or grains is not going to be a quiet event even with the best of design. The time settings are on a spring driven timer – analog – which I consider a PRO in that it is not a wear issue the way digital timers are on appliances. The real CON in the system has to do with shut –off options. Because of the speed with which this system grinds – very high – you are only going to want to use it for short bursts; 30 seconds to maybe a minute. Heat is the enemy of a good grind – coffee, spices, flour – as it can impart off notes in terms of flavor. You are going to want to cool – refrigerate, place somewhere cool to rest – what you’ve ground before you run it through again. Which has meant unplugging it for us, transferring out the contents of the chamber and returning them once we get the temperature down. It is a minor inconvenience and a rocker switch – rather than a kill switch - is standard in the premium and kitchen commercial ones. For this price point – under 160 – you are getting very good quality with only a few minor inconveniences. If you’ve decided to take your baking/cooking game up a level with fresh flour, but aren’t ready to plunge into the much more expensive grinders at the next two price points up from this (over 170 to 200 and then over 200+) this is a very reliable, easy to use, and easy to clean grinding mill. The chamber can accommodate enough grain in smaller batches, to make a few pounds of flour for immediate use. For small scale commercial applications – making your own seasoning grinds, BBQ Rubs, or even gunpowder tea grinds (superfine) – this grinder can meet your needs without breaking your budget. For families – 4 to 8 members – this can produce enough flour for a week’s worth of baking For the baker who renting space in a commercial kitchen but wants to bring the hook of fresh milled flour this could be used for very small batch productions. The only advice, besides researching milling practices, I have is decide where you stand on the question of grinding stones. This is a metal grinding system – similar to the smaller mills used for coffee and spices – so it doesn’t have the fine settings you may want to control your product. For us that is fine, we can estimate the time or hand grind if we are feeling very picky, and for the prices is a very reasonable trade off. But if you are going to need very fine setting differences for specialty flours you will need to go up to the next price point for those.

It Broke The Second I turned It On
First time using it I turned on the timer and visibly saw a spark and could smell smoke. It only worked for a few seconds and then it died. Clearly this product was not made well and I want to know if there's a number I can contact to get a refund. I had been too busy to use it before the month return window had ended and I didn't even get a single use out of this.

More powerful than I expected
I ordered the A4 model and this thing is a beast. I was able to grind popcorn into cornmeal in less than a minute. My previous experience was with a beautiful big old hand grinder than was just about an all day affair to grind very much. But with this Greattrue Ginder it takes longer to dump out what you have ground up than to grind it. I love how this model lets the grinder cup tip over to aid in emptying. You cannot wash out the grinding cup with water but they do include a small brush to help get the powder out although I did upgrade that brush to a larger one I already had. In fact they include an extra set of blades and motor brushes. This is an extremely easy to use electric grinder. I figured I would have to have help from my husband assembling this grinder but it was already ready to go straight out of the box. All I had to do was take the wrappings off, read the manual and turn it on. I did grind some rice first in order to clean out the cup a bit and threw that out just in case there was something left inside from the manufacturing process that I couldn’t see. Make sure to have some ear protection because this is powerfully loud as well. But I don’t care one little bit. I put on my ear protection, turn the dial and in just a minute or so I have cornmeal to make cornbread for my husband. It is so great! This is also a pretty machine in its own way. It is bright shiny stainless steel. It is attractive enough to leave on the counter if you have enough counter space (I wish I did) but I can easily carry it to my pantry for storage between grinding. I have pretty bad arthritis in my hands and I can easily manage to screw/unscrew the finger tightening screws that open and close the lid. They aren’t real screws but I don’t know their proper name. But you loosen and tighten the grinding cup with one on each side. They made everything easy to use on this grinder. This would make a great gift for anyone who likes to grind their own products. I have nothing negative to say about this really great grinder.
