Introducing Chomsky: A Graphic Guide (Graphic Guides)

Good little intro
The book is divided into two parts: the political Chomsky which we all know and love (well, at the time of this original review I did, but let's not go into that), and the less visible linguistic Chomsky, which comes first. Thanks to the first linguistic half, I now have a thorough underlying understanding of Chomsky's work on generative and transformative grammar, as well as his intriguing (for a philosophy student interested in cognitive science) work on psycholinguistics and the philosophy of mind, as well as his disputes with the behaviourist B.F. Skinner and the Swiss child psychologist Jean Piaget. If you want an introduction to this Chomsky, I recommend this book highly. However, the second political half, although it covers the bare basics, does not do much in terms of outline; this is perhaps because the author is just a linguistics professor, and not also well-versed in political radicalism and activism. If you want to have a better introduction to this side of Chomsky, I would recommend his own book For Reasons of State, or his own lecture Government In The Future which you can find online both in the original audio and text form.As a complete unit, I would still say buy it, but keep reading afterwards; it only goes so far.

Good Introduction to Noam Chomsky and his work
Whether you are very familiar to Chomsky and his works or a new reader, you will find this book interesting.

Not really what I wanted it for
This book doesn't really focus on anything about Chomsky. It's a decent and very simple introduction, but it's presented in a bizzare comic style. The lack of focus is very annoying, and I wouldn't say the book has any academic use. As a read it is mildly entertaining, but I feel I know no more about Chomsky than I did before purchasing this.

Good introduction
Two parts really...linguistics part one then political comment and implications...both I interesting in their own right but almost o st found it to be two different books. But realise in such a short summary of such a figure, justified . Could not agree with everything but of course that would not be possible considering such subject matter...made me rethink what socialism really manifests itself as.

something and nothing
although only an introduction (thus not comprensive) and good in that respect, but still overall balance not good, too much of the lignuist philosophy and not enough of the socialist critic. art work also not up to the standard of the other intorduction series, and too much artistic association with the author of the book- not sure if its a book about chomsky or john maher
