2" or a 1" brush is fine, depending on the canvas size, just a thin covering is required.

I always use a brush. It is very quick.

Is this just white oil paint

It’s titanium white mixed with linseed oil, if you Google it you’ll find out the ratio and be able to make your own as both can be bought cheap here on Amazon. Used as a base so your acrylics blend better and remain and workable for longer

Can you use liquid white with water based oils?

I use it with acrylics with same results as oil based.
