I own a few SmallRig products and must say this rotatable mount is no exception. It's designed for Sony Alpha series and FX3/FX30. It's also compatible with SmallRig camera cage (ID: 2087D / 3667B / 3639 / 4308 / 4183).Easy access to screen, fast switch and multiple mounting points. The main feature I like is that it makes both portrait and landscape shooting a breeze.Easy to set up and it's thoughtfully designed for easy use. Highly recommended.

Every photographer has that one piece of kit that subtly elevates their work. For me, it was this collar mount plate. Hurdles like repositioning the camera for a vertical shot mid-session, which used to be a minor nuisance, now feel trivial. The flip from landscape to portrait mode is seamless, keeping the subject in frame without fuss. The cherry on top? My camera's ports and screens stay unhindered, and the mount's padding protects my gear from the scratches and wear typical of a day's shoot. No more juggling or adjusting – my workflow has found its silent hero.

PROS-great mechanism for allowing vertical to horizontal rotation, without changing the optical axis. Simpler than an L-plate, and certainly far more effective than flipping a tripod head 90 degrees.-is really well machined (keeping up the Smallrig reputation)-quite light, given how much metal there is.-I appreciate the clever dual-quick release systems (and the adjustability of the locking anti-twist plate)-I’m impressed by the all-paper wrapping of the components in the shipping box, kudos.-quite easy to assemble (all tools conveniently included)-all elements of the mechanism are well labeled-both the plate that goes under the camera, and the plate on the rotating ring, fit all of my arca-swiss tripod heads solidly.-the extended lens-release button is a nice touch-all contact points with the camera are rubber/siliconeCONS-diameter of ring too small to take several of my 3rd party lenses-ring rotation is very stiff (though I assume that this will loosen up over use)-the instruction manual’s writing is quite small (If I hadn’t already figured out how to assemble it, I might have become frustrated with the small writing and detailed diagrams)-can only rotate in one direction-need to remove the lens to take the camera off the mechanism (but this is the same with all rotating collar mounting systems).NOTES-Smallrig has, sadly, made the same mistake that a competitor that beings with “U” has made (whose rotating collar mount I also have): making the ring just the right for Sony lenses only, neglecting that some 3rd party lenses may have not have the same narrow cylinder near the lens mount. Relatedly, I use a Fotodiox variable-ND adaptor to mount Nikon lenses to my Sony A7IV, and the Smallrig ring diameter is too small for that adaptor. After faffing around for a very long time trying to get this to work along with my a7iv cage, I finally gave in and took the cage off. The collar mounts perfectly and provides a very simple and easy way to rotate the camera, great for use on a tripod so you're not taking the camera off and changing mounts.I've no idea which cage I have but the fact it didn't work with this mount suggests it's not in the compatibility list, and there's no suggestion that Smallrig have provided something that isn't compatible.

The quality of this item is exactly as you would exppect from this manufacturer, that is to say it's very high quality.Everything works smoothly and it looks and feels like a quality premium item.Not everybody will need something that you happen to want to change from portrait to landscape orientation easily and superfast this is something that will do the trick for you extremely easily.

£77 at time of reviewIt does one thing and does it pretty well, but it’s quite pricey, would I use this instead of my L bracket, hmmm not sure, yes it allows me to quickly go from landscape to portrait very quickly, but I rarely need to do that in a hurry (of course your needs may differ).I’m using it on an A7M3 and it fits fine, no issues getting it attached, and the integrated ARCA is perfect for my set ups, all being ARCA. It felt pretty secure in either position, with a smallish lens (can’t really be used with a large telephoto as I have the tripod mount on the lens not the camera.Hope my review was helpful

You could argue that this is less of an issue when using on a tripod, but I like to find a composition off the tripod, then mount the camera. Anything that reduces the effective grip on very expensive equipment cannot be regarded positively...
