For when you want to learn what to do or confirm what you think you should do is the right thing. Could save you a fortune in shop repair bills or on recovering from your repair mistakes (if you don't refer to a manual like this). Better than the Haynes one.

I commute to work by bike and I also cycle recreationally during the summer months, so I need to do the occasional bit of maintenance. I have found this book to be pretty useful reference. Even if you're not an expert, the start of the book gives a very useful introduction to the various parts of the bike and explains some of the technical jargon. There are also numerous useful illustrations throughout.I also have the The Bike Book: Complete Bicycle Maintenance (Haynes), and I agree with the other reviewer that the Complete Road Bike Maintenance is the better of the two books.Although the book is dedicated to road bike maintenance, much of the material is also relevant to the maintenance of other types of bike such as mountain bikes and hybrids.

Bought this for my partner's Christmas - he says it is very informative and clear, and the pictures are very useful.
