Nope, nope, nope
I purchased a 5wt reel largely on the basis of Van Staal’s stellar reputation for bullet-proof surf reels. It was a mistake. This is a made-in-China $50 reel with a $250 Van Staal logo. I would recommend any quality USA made reel (Lamson, Galvan, Nautilus, Ross, etc) reel over this one. As for reels made off shore, save yourself some money and buy a Piscifun or Redington - same, or better quality, and at a much better price. Such a disappointment.Van Staal makes fabulous surf spinning reels - they should stay in their lane.
