Outstanding knife for the price!
I purchased this just to see if it was any good. It is! Made by the same parent company as Shun, this knife is far superior to knives many times the price. The handle is basic but comfortable. The blade is beautiful and sharp! It holds an edge extremely well! It cuts better than anything I've used that wasn't VASTLY more expensive. After using this knife for a few days I decided to purchase the entire line of Kai Luna knives. They are unbelievably good! Especially for how inexpensive they are. I highly recommend this and all Kai Luna knives.

Knife Geek's Review
First, I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5, because mine had a small chip in the edge out of the package. I chose to simply sharpen it out, rather thsn return it for replacement. On a more expensive knife, I'd find that unacceptable; but these are $12 shipped with prime. Otherwise these are still a great value, as I explain below. For $12 you get a great intro into more Asian style knives with thinner blades. The thin blade means these won't take chopping or abuse like a thicker Western style knife will, but you'll gain much better slicing performance. The steel is a base grade, German made 4116 stainless. 4116 has acceptable edge retention, but it sharpens easily and is quite rust resistant. The thin handles allow for an easy pinch grip, but are still comfortable even for me with my large hands (I wear size XL gloves). The soft rubber grip inserts are also a nice touch for a home cook's knife that won't see the inside of a commercial kitchen. The hard plastic portion of the handle had a couple of bits of molding flash, but that's easily taken care of with a few strokes from a nail file. The hammered finish looks great, and helps to let food slide off (release) as claimed. The included sheath is another nice touch, particularly if counter space or personal preference lead you to store your knives in a drawer rather than in a block or magnetic strip on or above counter. The sheath will be tight out of the package so be careful and take your time putting the knife into it until it breaks in.The 8 inch blade length plus handle makes this about the longest knife that will fit being held tip down into a standard size kitchen sink for cleaning. The 7 inch Santoku or 6 inch utility in the same Luna line would both be better choices if you're a small apartment, boat, or RV with a smaller sink and less counter space.I bought this to evaluate the Luna line as a possible recommendation for friends who aren't knife geek's like me. My verdict is that these are a great option for anyone who wants a good knife at a low price.

I have literally purchased nine of these knives!!!
Kai knives. I have owned one for over ten years but rarely used it because of the thin handle. But since its one of my sharpest knives I 've been using it lately for slicing sashimi. I never realized that it was a japanese knife because I bought it on sale due to the great price but normally just use Global and Shun knives. When I finally got around to looking for Kai knives on amazon I couldn't believe the price!!! So I ordered three different Kai brand knives, that cost $10/ $14/ $40. When they arrived I opened the smaller two and loved the edge and feel of the balance and handle. I decided to return the 8" blade because it is much larger than I prefer. Wow. It's such a great knife I couldn't help but buy it for everyone I know and I'm stopping to write this review before i order one more for my son (who already owns a bunch of great knives) but I find this knife perfect for just about everything. I'm glad they have a lot in stock, I'm not sure I'm done ordering!!!

Worth every penny. Don't hesitate.
I have all the knives I need, and bought this just to evaluate the Luna line. This review is for the "kiritsuke nakiri." ("Asian" blade.)It's a fairly good steel, comes with a decent edge, and is an excellent value. The handle is a bit thin for an Asian style blade, and could become slippery, but used on the usual vegetables should be fine.Based on this experience I would recommend the Luna line, especially for a new cook (wedding gift, etc.). They're not "artisan" knives, but more than I expected for the money, thin enough to cut easily, and will last for a good long time.I might buy a few more, and save my "good" knives from excessive wear.

Love this knife!
As a former chef I've become a knife snob. I look for sharpness, balance, longevity and value. I'm too cheap to pay a ton for my knives, having been burned in the past with high-end knives. I usually grab this one first before the higher priced ones if the application warrants it. Holds a good edge for longer than I would have expected for the price.

Good performance but fooled by sales literature.
The knife sliced through my sourdough and other crusty loaves effortlessly. However, I was disappointed it was not double-bevel at 16 deg, comprehensive at 32 deg, as mentioned by your sales literature.

Avoid
Tiny. Almost flimsy and very light knife. Fall victim of fake 5-star rated feedbacks from paid “customers”. Avoid.

It`s a keeper!
I use this knife for a few weeks now, and it`s my go to, especially when it comes to chopping vegetables. The blade has a very ergonomic shape, and it kept its edge rather well, even though it might not be made from the strongest steel. The handle feels a bit thin in my hand, but my wife says it is nice and comfortable.Overall, it is a rather good knife.

Buena calidad
De muy buena calidad x la hoja es perfecta delgada para ser un hacha te permite muy buenos cortes, solo hay que afinar el filo
