During the adolescent years, teens learn to grow more independent of their parents and families and focus instead on social development. But millions of teens with social anxiety and shyness would much rather bypass this critical stage. Shy teens may want to break out of their shell but feel uncertain how to do so, or may be anxious about being judged by their peers. The Shyness and Social Anxiety Workbook for Teens offers a complete program based in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for helping teens break free from social anxiety and stop worrying about what others think. This book helps teens come to see that painful emotions, such as embarrassment, are inevitable and survivable. The comic-strip-style illustrations, exercises, and worksheets in this book address all aspects of social anxiety, from missing out on high school dances to going to job interviews. It also includes help for teens who have anxiety about blushing in public and speaking up in class. Review: Very helpful especially for remote sessions - I am a clinical psychologist and have been using this workbook more in lockdown as work is now all remote. I have found it extremely helpful with those under 16 years. It very well guides you through CBT and some elements of ACT. I thought the way it uses values to build motivation before graded exposure was particularly helpful. My clients who have followed this approach have got rapidly better and have actually read it in between sessions! Not for everyone but the age group 12-16, years really seem to enjoy it. Review: Really good workbook! - Does exactly what it says on the โtinโ

A review from a psychologist and author that treats social anxiety for teens in group settings
I am a psychologist in private practice in Boston and author of The Emotional Extremist's Guide to Handling Cartoon Elephants: How to Solve Elephantine Emotional Problems Without Getting Run Over, Chased, Flattened, Squished, or Abandoned by Your True Cartoons ([...]). I specifically provide psychotherapy groups for adolescent girls struggling with social anxiety, self-harm, extreme emotions, panic disorder, eating disorders, bullying, and the like. My groups are highly valued, sometimes favored over individual therapy, and very cohesive. I am always looking for material to introduce into my groups. This book is a fabulous blend of exposure, traditional cognitive behavior therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and is most excellent for group discussion and practice. My clients responded very favorably to the exercises and discussion, and I will continue to keep it on hand for future use. I think decent material for adolescents is extremely hard to find- especially as a lot of "treatment" for adolescent groups often involves a bunch of activities or imposed situations that ignore what really IS going on in their lives. Teenagers need decent help and this is one user-friendly book that will help them find it.
