Before you install.
I read a number of reviews that were dissatisfied with the fit, seemingly to loose. The maker says don't overtighten the laces. So I did the right thing and pretended not to see the comments or instructions. The first thing I did was to remove from packaging and thoroughly and liberally coat the guard and lacing with Leather Honey and then repeat the process the next day. After the leather absorbed the product I proceeded to install the lacing as tight as I could. I figured that if the lacing failed I'd use paracord. Well it didn't and the result was a very tight fit. As hard as I try I'm unable to make the guard move. The leather molded to the handle. The leather is of good quality and durable. The handle of my Scandinavian forest axe is protected. Very satisfied with the purchase.

Works great
Normally I'd make this myself, but I wanted something that looked extra nice; this certainly does. I agree with some other reviews that the included leather string is useless. I used paracord, which works and looks good. I got the lighter color, which will darken with use and oiling to have lots of character as the years go by. Totally satisfied and a fair price, works for me. Mine fits nice and tight with the paracord, not moving around at all.If yours is loose, oil the handle up really well (I use boiled linseed oil), put the leather sleeve on, lace as tight as you can, and then pour boiling water on the leather (carefully of course, also this will darken the leather); set it out in the sun to dry. That should tighten up the leather. Or, you can wrap paracord around the handle underneath the leather sleeve. I do this on some of my larger axes, which adds a second layer of protection.(Also pictured is the Husqvarna Small Splitting Axe with a guard I made with some scrap leather) these two axes cover quite a lot of bases between the two of them. The one I made is tearing a bit at the holes, because it's not as thick. This one I bought here is very thick leather, so no issues like that with it.

Skip the leather strips
Very nice.Replace the leather laces with paracord; the leather snapped while I was snugging it up.

Great Quality and Craftsmanship
The price is a bit steep for what you're getting, but the quality and craftsmanship are very nice. I'm sure you'll pay much less if you buy something made in China. I'd rather pay more for something made in the America--period. I installed it on my Gränsfors Bruks Small Forest Axe, and it looks great! (see photos) The only problem is that it makes the original sheath look very cheap, so now I want to order the sheath from this company. The leather does seem a bit dry, which happens to leather. Just treat it with a good leather conditioner from time to time, and it will be good to go. Someone else mentioned that it slips down the handle. I think such slippage will happen if it's not laced up tight enough. I laced mine quite tight, and it's not budging. If the lacing gets loose, I'm sure it will start moving down the handle. Your shoe will start slipping, too, if you shoe laces get loose. Attach it well, and you'll be fine. I like this handle guard a lot. Thank you to the folks at R.O.G..

Pricy
Quality was fine however quite expensive when compared to competitive brands I have purchased for other axes.

Great looking Axe Guard
I love this company. Great quality. Second item I've bought from ROG. Previously bought a sheath for my Bushcrafter 162. If you're concerned with the price, don't be. Buying from ROG is an investment. If you're serious enough about your equipment that you're buying a quality product like a Hults Bruk Kisa or a Bushcrafter 162, you're going to want to spend money for a quality accessory. On top of that it looks great. Only complaint, which was mentioned in another review is the instructional video. Its a marketing video. Little to no instruction. That being said, if you can lace up your shoes you should be able to lace this up too. Just take your time and don't be afraid to start over. If you're on the fence about buying this - buy it - you'll be happy you did.

Exceptional Sheath American Quality
Ordered this piece about a week ago. To start the box the product came in was simple and easy to access. The craftsman who made the sheath left his business card and informational pamphlet in the box. The quality is world class and definitely and heirloom type item. The stitching was superb and the leather was fantastic. You would think something this simple couldn’t be manufactured in such an exceptional way. The Fit of the sleeve was great and the look is second to none. Fine work and I will definitely be a return customer to purchase more in this line made in America. Fine job 5 stars
