what is the maxium weight of shade that these fittings carry?  the shade I have is 1 kg and has a 40mm opening at the top.

Hi,

These are for lightweight (thin) glass shades and we would NOT recommend them for supporting a 1kg glass shade - the shape of the shade where the clips would touch will also affect the ability to support it so it's not quite as simple as specifying a maximum weigh, but we wouldn't recommend going above 350g.  You can buy 3-arm spring clips that would distribute the weight better and may allow a heavier shade.

Will these hold glass shades secure in a G9 ceiling light fitting, please?

Hi,

It's nearly impossible to say as we have no way to see what fixing is available inside your specific light fitting to secure the spring clip in place. The clips have a 10mm centre bore/hole typically to sit over a piece of hollow allthread and be secured in place with a nut. In any event, you would likely need to be able to dismantle the light fitting (including wiring) to attach the spring clip 'behind' the actual G9 lamp holder.

How and what do I measure to decide the correct size to buy please? I have standard bayonet led candle bulbs.

I bought these spring clips in order to retain glass shades on our wall lights. The clips fit on the bayonet bulb holder and are held in place by the screwed ring on the light bulb fitting. You then pull the retaining levers of the spring together and fit these up through the glass lamp shade and the let go (without trapping your finger). The spring tension holds the shade tightly against the wall light cup. Good Luck.

If you're referring to a glass shade with a 42mm opening, then yes they 'should be' compatible - BUT without knowing/seeing if the shade is a closed globe or open ended design it's nearly impossible to say for certain as we have no way of knowing if it needs to pass the lamp bulb or if the angle to which the clip needs to support the glass shade will provide enough surface area to grip it under tension.
