All the sass!
The rivalry has begun with a bang! Absolutely fantastic start to this series. I love how the mcs try to one up each other only for hilarity to ensue. The political intrigue is only a stage for these to battle upon and perform their quips at each other, putting all else on pause. One is a man of perfection and smugness and the other a sickly, clever man of humble beginnings...who will win the battle of sass between geniuses? I couldn't put the book down I wanted to find out so bad! I've already preordered the next volume! Come on, time, go faster! I need it now! I must read more clever word play!

Good book
I like the author's writing style and their sense of humour. Don't get me wrong this book is about a mystery, set in ancient China there's some amazing fights, great characters. This book kept me on the edge of me seat.

Funnier than thousand autumns
I've been falling into the rabbit hole of boys love novels and thousand autumns was one that was a very very slow burn, but the dynamics of the two characters kept me interested. I also felt a kinship with the cultivation explanation. Now, this book took the cultivation part mainly out and tied in another of my favorite things: mystery. While shen in autumns was quiet but kept temper down to earth, the "shen" in this book is fierce and able to fight back with wit. I was left many times laughing so hard, my stomach hurt.I love this book and can't wait to see more wonderful banter between the two sects.

UNEXPECTEDLY GOOD??!!!?
First of all, I haven’t finished reading this first one yet BUT it’s already so good so far!! I love Cui Buqu and Feng Xiao’s bantering😭 they’re sooo funny! also their schemes, and their dynamic? like damn I’m loving it. It’s definitely a slow burn, and that’s fine, it’s still very enjoyable!!

Love this Author!
I haven't read the full book yet, only a few chapters but I can already tell this is going to be an amazing series. I loved the author's previous work, "Thousand Autumns: Qian Qiu", so I look forward to seeing where this one takes us! ♡

Good start
Peerless starts a new danmei series by Meng Xi Shi. According to the back cover text, it’s set in the same world as their Thousand Autumns series, but in this first volume the connection is mostly the jianghu, as the author calls their martial arts world. Here, jianghu only plays a secondary role though. The main characters are Feng Xiao and Cui Buqu, leaders of rivalling secret agencies of the new dynasty. Feng Xiao is a martial arts expert, beautiful beyond belief, and self-centered in a way that’s both aggravating and amusing. Cui Buqu doesn’t know any martial arts and he’s sickly and weak, but his mind is sharp. He’s on a secret mission on a remote border town, working under cover when Feng Xiao arrives to town to investigate a murder of a foreign emissary.Feng Xiao immediately suspects Cui Buqu, who seizes the opportunity to hinder Feng Xiao’s investigation. But soon, the two must start working together. There isn’t love lost between the men, but some kind of respect forms in between the endless bantering. This was a fun start to a series, and very different from Thousand Autumns. The beginning was a tad confusing, as it was told from the points of view of random characters, and it took several chapters before Feng Xiao and Cui Buqu came to fore. The main plot is a murder mystery, although a convoluted and highly illogical, the suspects springing up at random. The men manage to explain everything in the end though. The start of their relationship is rocky, but very entertaining, each holding their own. And the next mystery is already waiting for them. Looking forward to reading it.
