You can. I actually removed one to put it on the long side and I didn't see any holes on the basket where the string was removed from.

What brand is the chalk marker?

I don't know the brand name, I don't even think there was a name on them. I do know they worked very well and went on smoothly.

Can the tags be moved and placed on the longer side of the basket?

It can be done, but they are tied to the basket. You can purchase the material that is used to tread it to the basket at any hobby shop.
