Good Album if you like Chris Helmes' voice with The Seahorses buy this !
2005. Album featuring Seahorses Chris Helme and Stuart Fletcher. If you liked Chris' voice with the Seahorses then buy this Album, you will enjoy it.Start at track 5 rather than track 1. The most accessable tracks are: Crime , on the inside , superhuman, pure, Fireflies, up til Dawn,The Devil Alive and well in DC. The other 4 tracks are ok .The opening bars of vocals at the start of the album do not represent the album at all so don,t be put off by them, wait for the song to start proper.California has some strong thick bass playing , shades of seahorses , probably based on a riff from Stuart ?Track 4 sounds a little like Cold play as it begins interms of pace and vocal. The Yards made another album after this one which came out in 2008 or 2009, then they split up.Chris Helme then released a solo album Ashes, and is working on a 2nd solo album at present.I havent bought any of those 3 yet but I was impressed enough with this Album to buy the 2nd Yards album next, after that Chris' solo material will be on my list.Ps anyone who tells you John Squire was no good solo is wrong! Both albums good, first one better of the two.Live, I saw John at shepards bush 2004 and he was very good and sang in tune, Roses tracks live with in tune vocals!Back to Chris;Oi Chris 2 things: 1. You should do a double headline tour with Michael Chapman and maybe even perform together as well. I told Michael about you when he played Norwich last in 2016.2. Get Squire to reform the Seahorses as support Act for the Stone Roses reunion gigs: fans would love it and would be nice little earner for you and Stuart Fletcher, bet squire would do it just so he could do the Love is the Law guitar solo!Get onto Squires people now, you deserve it , its the least Squire could do for you!

the whole nine YARDS
Great album that gets better the more you listen to it! Plenty of mellow tunes for fans of lead singer Chris Helmes later solo stuff, but also some louder harder sounding songs to give this album its own 'band' feel.

Awsome album
PLAY LOUD ! First 5 songs are bordering on epic and grow the more played, worth every penny paid and more, love it, would recommend if you like The Seahorses you will also like this, so buy it now.

A gem of an album
This has quickly become one of my favourite albums, not a poor track on it.The dark almost sinister Crime and the melodic and anthemic fireflies being the standout tracks but this album is bursting with great songs and the only suprise is that The Yards were'nt a huge selling band, Helme's vocals and song writing are superb throughout, the only ever so slight criticism would be that the production is maybe not as polished as as it could have been but this does'nt detract from a cracking album. If you loved the Seahorses you will love this.

fantastic
at last the boys that had any talent in the seahorses are doing what they were not allowed to do in that band. Hart felt, raw and anthem like and thats just the first tune. Chris has taken his influences and brought them to bare on this album. At last his backing band has chance to show off as well as compliment the vocals with no crappy guitar solo over everything. A vintage in the making

The Yards Live
Went to see Chris Helme and The Yards Live at Fibbers Bar York last month, what an amazing voice does sound a bit like the Lead Singer from Starsailor but a much stronger and clearer voice. Some of the singles sound great and I will certainly be pre-ordering the Album.

Falls Short
A collection of mid to low paced songs that go nowhere. It sounds like a band that are totally uninspired, and have no intention or ability to inspire anyone listening. The lyricist tries too hard to sound meaningful and deep yet fails miserably (cover your ears for "Crime" and "The Devil Is Alive & Well & In DC to avoid the most embarrasing and naive lyrics aimed at George W Bush you've EVER heard), the affected, purposefully restrained vocals grow old, quick. The production doesn't help matters either. Nowhere near the standards of a commercial album, but still nowhere near as raw as a demo of fresh songs. The songs sound like theyve already been recorded about 50 times. A CD that should be sold at gigs, not record shops perhaps. 1/10
