Primitive Pravda
Got this thinking of Tarkovsky’s ‘Stalker.’ That I found mesmerising and still do. This is not mesmerising. The hand-held camera and deliberate jump-cuts on this occasion do not keep you engaged. Too much being said. Polemical.I love what I would term ‘surreal cinema’ with examples such as ‘Stalker’ or Bergman’s gem ‘The Seventh Seal’ or Gilliam’s wondrous ‘12 Monkeys.’ All hold your attention even on repeated viewings. I lasted 55 minutes On the Silver Globe.Notions of freedom and lust are clearly from impoverished minds. The booklet enclosed explains all but I’m not sure it takes me anywhere. I liked the lost civilisations making marks on the Earth analysis in the film. Clearly there have been life forms before our current 12000 year existence as stay-at-home animals. But the film is going many places.I actually enjoyed a film called ‘Growth or Support?’ a one minute film on Flickr! I am still thinking about it. Maybe I will dip into Silver Globe again and find a different view. But as a work of cinema it does not work for me.
