Wittner Composite 4/4 Violin Chinrest - Side Mount - Hypoallergenic

I just installed it on my violin. I used to have an ebony chin rest, but the placement of it affected my posture as it was too leftward, cause my left arm to twist more than necessary. I was looking for a more ergonomic chin rest that was more centrally located on the violin and decided on this one after reading everyone else’s reviews. This chin rest does not disappoint. Sure it’s plastic, but the way its contours hug your jaw, the centered-placement on the violin, it instantly made playing much more comfortable for me. I love it already!

Title says it all. I struggled to with comfort for over a year. I'm 5' and am used to things not fitting and adapting. The violin is one of the few places where adapting can affect playing. I couldn't even use the shoulder rest because of the discomfort.Until the day I bought this. I didn't even know there was such a thing. I was lucky enough to hear a fellow student ask the guest violinist about her chin rest as she had noticed it looked a little different. I figured it's not that expensive so I'd try it as she too was small and said it helped.Wow, who knew such a small adjustment would have such huge impacts! I can even use a shoulder rest now too! It is so comfortable playing and now it's always positioned right and my playing has improved because same position makes muscle memory happen more easily because even a small degree of angling the violin can impact playability when learning.If you find discomfort is an issue or can't get the right position or are small stature, don't think about getting this side mount chin rest. It's seriously the best investment you can make and it's very inexpensive and easy to install. So there's no reason not to.

I have a severe nickle allergy and the violin shop near me recommended I purchase this chin rest. I'm so glad I did! I had it installed yesterday by the violin shop. I probably could have done it myself but I needed them to restring it anyway so I let the professionals handle it. Anyway when I played last night it was more comfortable than my previous chin rest and I don't have to worry about allergies! Totally glad I got it and would buy again.

This is a fine chinrest that is especially helpful to those that are allergic to the metals used in most chinrests.I had a student that was hopelessly sensitive to metals near the neck region. It doesn't matter if it was nickel platted or chrome plated as massive rashes will break out. So I offered to get this for my student and install it. Quite a simple and inexpensive way to solve a rather disastrous problem for a yearning student.I have to say that the installation cannot be simpler. It does not have the usual vertical screw mechanism that requires a clamp wrench like traditional chinrests. It instead uses a set of Phillips screws at the bottom of the apparatus. This really makes installation a breeze. Not only that, the cushion for the chinrest are integrated! One does not need to hold the chinrest with the cushion at the same time. Installation took much less than 5 minutes.Of course, durability cannot be compared with the traditional chinrest design. This type of chinrest has multiple joints and even more parts, while the fastening system for the traditional chinrest only has two hinges on each side and a total of four moving parts. This mechanism does have a rattle before the screws are fastened, and the fact that everything is plastic doesn't comfort me.The design can definitely be improved as far as durability is concerned. However, I cannot be happier as it did save the learning career of an allergic student at a price no more than the cost of a traditional chinrest.The Good:- hypoallergenic- the mounting system is easy to use- price is on par with the traditional chinrestThe Bad:- the mounting system is a bit heavy on plasticThe Mediocre:- none

I'm a beginner... like one week's worth of owning and learning the violin. It was becoming a frustrating experience because the chin rest that came with my violin, although real ebony, was small and positioned further away from the tail piece than the size of my head could handle. This chin rest did the trick for me. Now my chin and cheek are right were they need to be and I'm struggling less with the bow and my fingering positions.

I have been looking for a chinrest that I can adjust closer to the bridge, and I’ve found it.At first, I wasn’t sure about the plastic, but it looks very natural and professional on my violin. It’s easy to clean, to re-adjust, and I started noticing that a lot of violinists I know have the exact same product (they also love it).Couldn’t be happier, so comfortable, and definitely worth the little money spent! 💖

When I began violin, I had the regular side chin rest. It wasn't long before I had pain and had to quit.Fast Forward 17 years. I try again, new teacher. He suggests I get a center chin rest.The center chin rest is exactly what I needed! It's where my body wanted my violin to be.It was also easy to attach!Love this!

I liked it very much because of its quality. I wish that it were higher.

These chinrests are really easy to fit, easy to tighten when needed, and comfortable for players. I have several violin pupils who use them and they love them.
