Now You Know Why "Black Lives Matter" Matters
Two of America's original sins still alive today - racism and a fetish for guns - form the basis for this movie, which is pretty close to what actually happened. Only the character Mann is invented. Duke Perry, who shot Sam Carter in cold blood before they lynched him and riddle his body with bullets, is actually Bryant Hudson, the only white formally charged in the massacre. During Florida's argument against reparations in 1994, they tried to claim that the sheriff had gone to Sylvester Carrier's home to warn him of the impending attack. Fortunately, the Florida legislators didn't believe in this BS and awarded $2 million in reparations to the survivors who could prove they were in Rosewood at the time of the attack as well as descendants. This movie is hard to watch, especially for those who mourn the growth of hatred in this country. And for those who think the Confederate flag doesn't symbolize hatred for blacks, this movie should make you think again.

Shocking,Cruelty beyond belief
In 1923, a prosperous black town in Florida was burned to the ground, its people hunted and murdered, all because a white woman falsely claimed that a black man sexually assaulted her. This woman's husband knew deep down she was a tramp but chose not to face up to it. Shocking to learn another man who initiated, ignited the townspeople to violently react in this manner was aware of the truth from the beginning.Hard to watch but a excellent movie. Great acting and storyline that's difficult to watch. The movie demonstrates just how cruel people can be when it comes racism. I'm a movie buff but had never seen this film. Heart wrenching to watch one human being treating another like an animal. Sparing no one, burying those they killed in a mass grave. The terrible acts that were committed reminded me of the horrible, mind boggling history of the holocaust. One shining light was the young child who lost respect for his cruel, prejudiced father teaching him to follow in his footsteps by example utilizing bullying tactics. This man was the worst of them all.

Violence against black people was always just below the surface in America
This is an outstanding film based upon the 1923 massacre of black people in Rosewood, Florida. A white woman falsely accused a black man of beating her, which through rumors turned into rape, leading to a mob attacking all the African Americans in town. The movie is a reminder that the end of slavery did not mean the end of oppression in the United States. It shows that race mixing was considered a threat to the white race and could easily be manipulated by white women to cover up their own indiscretions. The story also highlights that violence was always just under the surface in the country and could easily explode with any provocation.Rosewood has a great cast starting with Don Cheadle who I’m never disappointed in. There’s also Ving Rhames, Esther Rolle, Jon Voight, Michael Rooker, Elise Neal, and others. On top of that John Singleton did the direction.Singleton did a great job with the story. He didn’t just present the town and then bang the killing began. Singleton spends time developing the characters and building up the tension until things explode. In the process he brought to life things that you can only see in photographs like celebrations over lynchings and more. It’s disturbing, thought provoking and necessary so we don’t forget what happened in America.

The story is hard to watch because of the horrible treatment of the blacks in America
Gut wrenching movie to watch. The acting is superb. The story is hard to watch because of the horrible treatment of the blacks in America. It's important for everyone to know this history and to not repeat it.

Don’t miss this movie.
One of the finest historical dramas I’ve ever seen. Realistic and riveting. This movie helped me better understand some of the many facets of post slavery prejudice and abuse suffered by African Americans.Jon Voight did an excellent job in the role of the store owner conflicted by societal norms in his 1020’s small Florida town. He is forced to take a stand for good or evil when irrational mob violence takes over the town of Rosewood.

A Must See Collectors Item
This movie deserves more than five stars for several reasons: First and foremost because it is based on a true story about a part of this countries history back in 1923. Secondly, the acting is excellent with established stars such as Jon Voight, Don Cheadle, Ester Rolle and Ving Rhames in his best role ever. This movie is a fantastic teaching tool to explain to children how things used to be and why they should never be that way again. This film is so good it invites you to research for yourself the facts about what happened to the town of Rosewood, Florida. There is plenty of action but some scenes are to violent for young children. This is a must see for every American citizen of all origins and for every other citizen that is interested in the history of this nation.

Very sad how people just don't care about another human just ...
Very sad how people just don't care about another human just because of the color of their skin... Everyone is just as equally human as the next man... Racism has been going on way too long it needs to STOP.... But it is a really good movie, just real sad and got me very angry how people was slaughtered for no reason at all

I was disappointed in this
I was disappointed in this. However, I gave it to someone who loves it. That's good enough for me. I like the back story to this movie - the descendants of Rosewood - alive and well and thriving.
