The Gerber Defender Compact Tether worked way better than I though it would. I am using it with the Neat Freak scissors and I really like it. Don't be discouraged by those dumb videos of actors, dangling tethered scissors from their bodies, exposing a sharp tool to chance. The tether is small, clips onto the bottom of your right pocket seam. I keep the scissors in my right cargo pocket, out of the way until I need them. The finger loop does work as indicated. I'm fishing on rocks and jetties, with a crazy dog, near the mouth of the Columbia river. The retractable tether, with the scissors work really well for cutting bait and line, it is at the ready, then out of the way just as fast.

This thing works great for my smaller forceps or clippers but it probably won’t retract very well if you’re using something heavier

Saw this and thought to myself, this would be a great badge holder. This thing is sturdy! I have to carry 3 badges and a key set at work. This thing secures them all, and you can lock them in place when you are not using them. It is expensive for this purpose, if it lasts a year or two it is worth it.

I owned this for two months and used it daily for my keys (in a keysmart). After the first day or two I could see the orange paint wearing away off the clasp but I figured whatever, I didn't particularly care for the orange anyways. However after a few more day I could see the metal start to wear away. The metal loop on my keysmart doesn't have a mark on it but this Gerber defender was starting to lose worse and worse. It eventually got bad enough that one time when I snagged it the clasp just bent (see pics) before the release even went off. I had a cheap generic $10 one off amazon that I used before it for years so this is rather disappointing.TLDR - the metal is super cheap, don't trust this with anything valuable.

The tether retract is stronger than expected. Even with my Work keys it still retracts. I wear it on my belt,at work. I will be upgrading to the larger unit for the physical slide lock feature, just for my own piece of mind. However the smaller unit comes with No disappointments.

I bought one to hold my keycard at work, which is used probably 100x a day. Since day one it hasn't let me down yet. Still retracts quickly, there's some discoloring to the line but there doesn't seem any sign of it breaking.I paired my with a brass hook so I could easily and quickly throw it on my belt loop.
