This is a great product for the price. With the price I paid had some concern, but as of two weeks it is performing great. It instantly connected and has never dropped.The only reason I knocked off a star is that it was hard to get the drive in. There is a plastic end piece that goes on the bottom with two plastic pieces that go inside the enclosure, with two knobs that go into holes into the enclosure. These tabs stuck out too much for the drive to slide all the way down and fit in. I ended up breaking one of the tabs, gluing it back on. After twenty minutes or so of fiddling with it I was finally able to get the drive in and secure it in the enclosure.Pros: Nice looking enclosure, instantly detected and stay connected.Cons: Was hard to get the drive into the enclosure.Final recommendation: Can't beat it for the price. If you are looking for an enclosure to switch drives in and out you might want to look at other options. However, if you are looking for a sturdy enclosure, that performs well then I would recommend this enclosure.

A relative's laptop expired, they never backed up files, so I needed a way to transfer files from the old ATA/IDE HDD to the new computer - this did the job. The 5-star rating is price-adjusted: it's definitely built on the cheap side and the enclosure to HDD connector is some fragile, so I wouldn't recommend using it if you want to swap HDDs in and out a lot, but to put the HDD in it and leave it in for use as a backup drive, it works fine. Came with the cable (two USB connectors at one end for power and data at the computer, one at the other end to the HDD enclosure) and a tiny Philips screwdriver for the four tiny enclosure screws - try not to drop them on the carpet. Also came with a vinyl pouch for the enclosure that looked like soft Naugahyde but felt unpleasantly sticky to the touch - no loss.

Got this to use with an old laptop hard drive. The laptop was otherwise ready to be recycled. We were able to get the data from the drive, then erase the drive and use it as an external storage device, all for a low price. I have used this type of solution before and found that the quality of this particular unit was not as good as what I had used previously. Had some trouble with assembly at first, but eventually got everything connected and working.

My old PATA/IDE 100GB hard drive works just fine. The aluminum case does a good job dissipating the heat. My minor gripe is that the unit uses a standard usb male A plug on both ends instead of using a mini b on one end like most external drives. This just means I can't use other cables I already have but I can only use the one that came with it. If you have these cables then my complaint won't apply to you.

Cheap, very lightweight, and does the job perfectly. Note that this meant for older-style ATA/PATA hard drives, not the newer SATA drives. If you have an old laptop that you're looking to get data off of, this is probably the perfect solution.One note: As someone else mentioned, there are two _very_ small screws that are used to hold the drive steady in place in the enclosure. They _are_ in the package, in a small bag, and it is easy to overlook them if you weren't specifically looking for them. So do make sure you find the little bag with the two little screws. It's there.

This product served the purpose I need it to. Used as back up for some of my application when repairing some computer systems, I installed a Toshiba hard drive and it was really easy to do, product it is not the best I have seemed and used but it's chip and does the job done.

Excellent for the price. I only needed the internal component to plug my old laptop's internal HDD to it so I can clone and transfer stuff off it to my new SSD. My old HDD didn't fit inside the enclosure, but that doesn't really bother me since I don't care to use this enclosure for its intended purposes, and if you are wanting to use as an enclosure I suggest you buy something better in quality. You get what you pay for.

If your looking for a cheap, easy, and quick way to get those old files from one hard drive to another. Or, even just looking to salvage an extra hard drive you have laying around, and want to use it as a portable storage device, then this is a great buy. I was looking to get into some old files I had on my old hard drives, and this was exactly what I needed. Shipped almost immediately and even arrived early. So glad I was able to get to some of those old files. Great buy!
