Schiit Midgard Headphone Amp and Preamp with Balanced Inputs and Outputs

This is a very good headphone amplifier. As with all things Schiit, the build and component quality are excellent, when combined with quality circuit design, translates to great sound. I may not be keeping this, but that's only because it doesn't have quite enough power for my power hungry Dan Clark Audio E3 planar magnetics. Considering the price, this is an absolutely steal, given it's performance.

I'm not an audiophile, I want to preface with that. Yes, I've done my research, but I've never been able to tell the difference between all the different headsets others spend so much time on and cannot tell the difference between tuned profiles from notable audiophiles in the community and default profiles That being said, I appreciate quality construction and longevity. I got into more expensive and premium headsets not for sound quality but because of just how many hyperx, asus, and so many other brands of headsets I've broken over the years and frankly I was just absolutely tired of them breaking and buying new ones Got this for gaming because I'd been running my Demevalos' guide modded so that the cable is replaceable (which was the main reason why I've had to replace so many of my other headsets) Beyerdynamic DT 880 600Ω on a Creative Labs Soundblaster x4 which frankly wasn't up to the task of driving them for FPS gaming All I can say is what a difference. I had the game Wardogs open in the lobby with its music playing when I first plugged it in and put on the headset. Instantly had full body chills, not that that game's lobby music is particularly striking, but that was my first experience with this The difference is amazing. I can now easily perceive footsteps and bushes and determine directions where I had issues hearing them before at full volume when at somewhere around 30% I do think that this is purely due to my having purchased a 600Ω headset on sale and it needing far more power to properly run than your normal headset I can't speak for the Halo feature being good or not as I don't have the other cable to compare it to the 3.5mm output, as my 3.5mm jack was replaced due to the right cable failing when I got this Can say that the Soundblaster fits perfectly on the non-vented section of the Midgard and that I'm quite satisfied with this combination so far If at some point I do get the 3.5mm jack I'll update this to reflect what I think of that feature if I can perceive it at all

Purchased the Midgard and Mimir as an upgrade from a magni unity & modi+ stack. I didn't expect the upgrade to be as large as it is. I've never been a big believer in spending more than entry level money on a dac and amp setup, but I now am a believer. Everything sounds larger and more enveloping. There's a greater sense of space between instruments and sounds. I don't want to go on an audiophile jargon tangent, but suffice to say the upgrade is readily apparent. I haven't even approached 12 o'clock on low gain on any of my many headphones. Even 300 ohm Sennheisers like the HD650/6xx are way loud enough at around 10 o'clock on low gain. This thing has all the power you'll ever need. Midgard at $219 ($256 price on Amazon accounts for shipping and Amazon's cut) is just amazing value. If you're looking for your first foray into the separate amp and dac space, I'd highly recommend skipping the magni or something similar (like JDS atom) and jumping right to Midgard. Its all anyone should realistically need.

-This and all Schiit products are what your looking and "listening" for to have a intense Schiit audio feeling. This review is for all the folks looking for the perfect design and build with cost/durability/audiophile performance/warranty which all can be yours from having a quality Schiit product leading to the very best Schiit ever experienced. -Let me save you all sometime; eventhough my audiophile experience is "i" knows what i like and i like this Schiit amp/pre amp as well as all the superior Schiit products. Yep want one of each=right? Schiit being great Schiit and me being greatly anal it seemed were a great pair from the start. i do not have to know the cool audiophile lingo because the anal me researched for hours/days/weeks for the best audiophile products from the best audiophile experts, articles, reiews, real user posts and web indvidual user sites that spanned over years of detailed info and Schiit always remained at the top of every experts and everyones "great" list. so as the saying goes "Try it you will like it!" I tried and i liked=the best Schiit ever! -Schiit sound quality is amperage with audiophile grade sound. We audiophiles crave clean, detailed, and dynamic audio that makes you feel like you're in the room with the band. If an amp doesn't have enough amperage to handle your headphone speakers (especially those power-hungry ones), you might get distortion, clipping, or that flat, lifeless sound. But with Schiit solid amperage, you get better control, deeper bass, and that crisp clarity that keeps you coming back for more Schiit. *Very proud to have a Schiiter in the middle of my living room for daily hours of enjoyment. -Schiit howdy shout out to the caring and prompt great Schiit Team customer care whom help me with guidence and Schiit product support. Well, i know i won't save the world with this review, but here it comes. This Schiiit Midgaurd produces a really nice analog sound with an incredibly large soundstage, reminiscent of old time high end audio. The soundstage comes very close to my Ifi headphone amp with the 3d exite switch ( parametric eq) on. It's a warm sounding amp with great resolution and at this price a truly outstanding bargain. This sounds better than a whole lot of amps that i have owned. Highly recommended. And i would add a special thanks to the late greats Gordon Holt and Art Dudley for the inspiration, Ha Ha Ha.

Price was great sound quality for the price a plus. However lost left side after about 4 hours of use. Very disappointed on build quality.

Great sounding headphone amp. I remember when a decent sounding headphone amp was only found in the Headphone subculture, made by hobbyists. They were decent sounding affairs but most used op amps in the signal path and that degraded the sound but made the amp economical. Schiit and ChiFi has changed all that. This a GREAT SOUNDING head amp period. It compares very favorably to a $2K headamp I have and I wish I had heard this before buying that one. Highly recommended and for the price it is a no brainer and you are supporting a US based business.

Built like a brick built…great headphone amp blows away the Asian products. I have tried them all. It also comes with a 3 year warranty and support in the USA…
