Not aesthetically pleasing but works
It does the job very well, seeing me through the dark winter. I had a new flat and office job, with a west-facing window and virtually no window respectively. I have had very severe SAD in the past at uni, waking up at 2-3pm at its height (and I HATE lying in!), and though it has never come back that badly since having the discipline of a 9-5 job, I had always worked in a very sunny office and was very concerned about my SAD returning. After several winters umming and ahing I decided to take the plunge.I don't know why no other products are made to automatically come on in the morning, as this seems to be the most probable function of a product like this, but it was not difficult to decide which Lightbox to try first. My only issue is that it looks and feels very cheap given that you're paying well over £100 for it. You can't really see in the picture but it's actually made of that awful silver shiny plastic, that you would expect of electronics at the bottom of the price scale. I thought it was going to at least be a matte grey with something of an old school computer look to it. It's also very lightweight, meaning you have to hold the whole unit down in order to push a button, and then it makes a knocking sound as the unit is so hollow. My flatmate purchased a different product (without the automation function) and I have to say the light his produced was noticeably warmer and brighter; and he equally found it solved his SAD.All that aside, the product does do exactly what it says on the tin, which is to program, set to ON and forget, and remove my SAD completely. I can confidently say that this took me straight through the winter with no undue depression, lack of ability to get out of bed, lack of focus, etc. Sunny days became a bonus, rather than something you're constantly hoping for. It is not that difficult to program; frankly if an 'engineer' can't get it then I feel sorry for whoever is employing him. You can have different times different days etc.

Works fine, though would be good to be able to select as many specific days in the week as you want for sunrise and the alarm. Can only do days of the week, weekdays, weekend, once only but not Mon and Wed to Sat. as I need so have to select all days of week then remember to cancel it on the days I don't need it and put it back on when I do.

getting up is a little easier now
I definitely find it a bit easier to get up in the dark mornings. It helps with SAD but it will still be difficult to wake up if you haven't had enough sleep. It isn't intuitive to use,and I know my partner will never learn how to use it as he doesn't read instructions. Construction is a bit cheap feeling. Overall it does help.

Hello sunshine
I have got this on my desk in my office. It is great. There is not a lot of natural light in the room and I do find that it lifts my mood. The light does seem very bright when you switch it on but it does not hurt your eyes and I do not find it obtrusive. I would recommend it.

Brilliant
I bought this for my daughter and she loves it. It wakes her with a gradual light and puts her in a good mood.

Useless.
The display is too bright so you don't get a dark bedroom. Useless.

On the good side I have no doubt at all that it ...
I have had one of these units for about 6-7 years. On the good side I have no doubt at all that it makes for an easier rise in the morning and I definitely benefit from using it in winter. On the downside, about 4 years ago some of the white LEDs began flickering and in time, more and more of them failed, so that presently, only half of them work correctly and the others either flicker impotently or don't work at all. It has a separate dc power supply unit, which also failed a few years ago, but I used a generic replacement. The menu-based software has some annoying quirks: I found I was unable to set anything while the sunrise/sunset is in progress; even turning the lamp off appears to cause the lamp to recommence the sunrise cycle. It remembers the settings you've made for about 5 mins after a power cut. Thereafter, it remembers the alarm settings but forgets the time and date and you have to go through the process of setting these again. I ordered this from a vendor/manufacturer somewhere in the north west UK, having found these details on the product papers. I wrote to them to draw these issues to their attention, and suggest improvements, but I received no response.I do not use the audible alarm, as I find it strident and ugly, so I prefer to use my iPhone alarm in conjunction with this device. While some people may require a loud and strident alarm to wake up, my unit does not appear to have any means of altering the volume or type of the audible alarm. In summary, there may be better units on the market now, and the manufacturer may have improved the software by now - I cannot say. What I can say is that were it not for the progressively failing LEDs, I would keep this unit and not be looking for a replacement now.
