Holistic Select Natural Dry Dog Food, Large & Giant Breed Puppy Recipe, 30-Pound Bag

I have a 9mo old (80lb) Swiss mountain dog, and I had been looking around to find the best fit for his diet. This food is wonderful, I feed him roughly 6 cups a day (3 cups in the am, 3 cups in the pm). I slowly integrated the new food and within 5 days his stool were solid and he looks very healthy and isn't picking around the house for more food. His coat is shinier, and he looks like he added some weight and overall mass. If you are questioning shelling out the money for this, it is definitely worth it. Having a large/giant breed dog, it is crucial that they get the correct amount of protein and fat and calcium etc., so they don't grow too large too fast and cause health problems down the line. My boy is going to be around 150 lbs when he hits maturity and I am following this rule of thumb for nutrient guidelines. We have 2 purebred White German Shepards (GSDs) a little over a year old. One has allergies and both have sensitive stomaches. We've tried many other limited ingredient & hypoallergenic foods, including Scientific and the Wellness brands however, their poop still had the consistency of soft serve ice cream when it wasn't diarrhea. When we switched to the Holistic Select within a few days they were solid and going to the bathroom regularly. We have had them on it for about six months now and won't use anything else. They have energy, their coats shine, they are bright eyed and bushy tailed! Oh and the Holistic Select is less expensive - switching over cut our dogfood bill in half each month! I tell everyone about this food! I do want to add that they are not keen on dry food so I add some bits of broiled boneless chicken, hot water, and mix it all up and they love it! If you have a large breed with sensitivity issues give this food a try! Best decision of dogfood ever!

For consistent OFA Excellent and Good Hip X-ray ratings, the past four years I've only fed and recommend Holistic Select Large and Giant Breed Puppy Food their first year, followed by a 23% protein Chicken and Rice (Kahoots or Nutri-Source brand, haven't checked Holistic Select if they have that). We also measure food only feeding according to weight needs.Details: Following this protocol preliminary hip x-rays at age 1 result in our Vet saying our Golden Retriever's hips are always "good or excellent depending on what OFA decides" but in his opinion they're "Excellent". After 1 year we switch to a low protein adult food resulting in age two final OFA tests always getting "good or excellent" ratings. Our success is based on 4 Golden Retrievers we've raised from birth whose parents, grand-parents and generations beyond also passed OFA hips, heart, elbows and eyes. Our experience with the same genes is that extremely high-protein diets will not get these results, nor using any other food we've tried get the consistent "Good/Excellent" hips we want. Pregnant and nursing mom's thrive on it too! Love this trustworthy food!

The food itself is great puppy loves it Great ingredients. my only problem is we put it on subscribe and save and every other month lately it is not available so am switching to another brand and am changing to adult since my pup is almost 11 months. Also picking a brand that I can buy in Pet stores so if I have a problem I can get it in my area. It seems I can buy this for 15.00 dollars more as a one time order when they can't fullfill it so it is out there why offer it subscribe abd save if you can't get it every month? So product is great subscribe and save not so much

Our Lab clearly likes this better than the Blue Buffalo she started on (confirmed with a side-by-side bowl comparison ) and its attributes for reducing the odds of hip dysplasia that's all too common in many breeds was the initial deciding factor.Also all of the other attention in the added pre and pro-biotics, Omega's, DHA ( omega-3 fatty acid) etc., is more thorough than the other quality brands she has had, like Wilderness.One reviewer said his dog had diarrhea when starting this brand. Even people can experience thsi when changing their diet-esp to a more healthy one. Another reviewers Veterinarian recommended adding a dollop of Yogurt, which may be a good idea even with the pre+pro-biotic already in the recipe.What we did was mix what she was used to eating with this new food at perhaps a 60/40 (old/new) ratio and she had no transition problems. Her coat looks shiny and better than ever compared to our previous other top band.We also use Tropiclean Fresh Breath oral care water additive (I've no affiliation or interest with any brand of anything except as a customer), and only mention this because it also has Omega 3 (and 6) Omega's, and she gets an egg a day, both of which may be helping her coat shine as well, but we used these with her old brand and her coat certainly did not pop like it does now.To what degree this helps with her coat is impossible to say; it's only a cap full per 16oz and ingredient concentrations are not listed.

My Wolfhound loves this food. After switching him completely over to this food I've noticed he no longer has issues with gas and his stools are solid and well formed and no issues with loose stool as I have seen with other brands of food. The formula appears to be well absorbed as he is not constantly having to go to the bathroom. Most local stores that have stocked this product no longer carry it and sold the last of what they did have on clearance, so it looks as though I will be only ordering this online going forward.
