Forgotten Fairy Tales of Brave and Brilliant Girls: Inspiring Fairy Tales of Heroines Who Outwit Giants, Fight Evil, and Live Happily Ever After, (Illustrated Story Collections) Review: An amazing book for any young girl. - I bought this for my 6 year old. She loves the stories and always wants more. She is a huge Disney fan and loves princesses. This book was a nice change of pace with strong young women going on adventures and wonderfully written tales based off real fairy tales. I was a bit hesitant to purchase this at first because many reviews made this out to be some kind of ultra feminist brainwashing book. I don't regret buying this at all it is amazing to have fairy tale stories other than damsil in distress. Review: Very cute - Perfect for a baby shower!

A Great Book of Tales
I, personally, love fairy tales and my goddaughter has recently started to get into them, as well. I got this for her birthday, and she thinks its pretty neat! The tales within this book are familiar, but seem to have a bit of a spin on them for new readers.

Inspiring
I love this storybook for once itโs all about girls saving boys. Most stories like this got lost, and no one ever told them as bedtime stories, like the classic Sleeping Beauty. I was getting a little sick of boys saving girls in stories, until I came to Brave and Brilliant girls.

Great for a 4+ ages.
I got this book for my 4 year old for Christmas. We love it for bedtime stories, however the stories are lengthy (which we do not mind), so one story takes about 3 nights. Have a bookmark handy! The stories are great, and we are happy to get away from the average rapunzel let down your hair tales. We have also purchased 2 more for birthday gifts.

Beautiful tales, great read for our accelerated reader :) She's very curious and drawn to this book!

This book is a bit strange; it touts itself as being feminist alternative to traditional fairy tales, and there are some good parts (e.g., female protagonists and flipping the prince-rescues-princess trope, non-white central characters occasionally feature in the illustrations), however most of the stories end in females winning male favour (and marriage), portrayed as the pinnacle of "happily ever after". Also, the focus on female appearance and 'beauty' is as strong as ever. Also, I can't overlook this: the writing (grammar, sentence structure, narrative progression) is pretty poor. Unforgivable in a kids book, if you ask me. I'm giving it 3 stars because the little girl I bought it for really likes princesses etc and really likes the book; it is definitely better than the alternative, but not by much. Still, I would not have bought it knowing what I know now.

Great Book for young children-they learn early that Girls can do what boys do and we are all equal and should treat each other as equals with respect and dignity

Great book which has become one of my daughters favourites. Stories are quite long so definitely not a quick bedtime story option. Illustrations are beautiful but not every page has pictures so more suited to primary age children. Some stories still have the traditional fall in love fairytale element but generally the girl has saved the love interest first rather than vice versa so slightly more empowering message for girls. I bought a second hand copy and it was in immaculate condition - didnt even look like it had been opened. Overall really happy with this and would recommend.
