Sonnics 1TB Silver External Portable Hard drive USB 3.0 super fast transfer speed for use with Windows PC, Apple Mac, Smart tv, XBOX ONE & PS4

I needed a storage device for photos and documents I have accumulated over the years, and after some consideration I decided to opt for this external hard drive. Firstly I am not a computer buff and to be honest not the most technically gifted person, so I wanted something simple to set up to transfer a number of files, folders mainly container years worth of pictures. I opted for the sonics brand with 1TB capacity, it says its ultra slim and portable and it certainly is, weighing only some 150g and fits in my hand easily also my trouser pocket! Now as mentioned I only wanted this as a back-up so I wouldn't lose many old photos and files and I must say that downloading them on the the hard drive was simple and very fast, it took no time to do and every time I have wanted to get a file I just plug in and within seconds I can locate the file or pic I am looking for. It comes with a USB 3.0 lead and is as simple as plug in and play. For my needs and convenience, portable I am giving it a full 5 stars, the 1TB comes in just under £40 at the time of writing and seems very good value.

Great reliable external drive, liked it so much I bought another.

I’ve bought sonnic again because my old ones died which i think it’s 4 years old as it’s always recording many films or any music etc, I’ve enjoyed it very much so Ive bought another sonnic but a bigger space! Which I’m always filming even though i have some on my dvd recording disc unless there’s nothing on? Then you dvd for some i don’t mind watching again which TVs repeat for many years like 007 updates version now son is are now rubbish & doesn’t like my Panasonic tv! Except my new LG tv are working fine! I don’t know why but it is what it is then I’ve bought a Toshiba hard drive & they worked! Yippee may certain models can be compatible to my Panasonic so you know if have that particular model then you know what to buy! Good luck with that! For now Toshiba is the one for me!

For secure external backups a rotating HDD is a better choice than a SSD (solid state drive), they have proven lifetimes of many decades unlike the modern solid-state devices, also the prices of SSDs are ridiculous right now. Time will tell how secure this particular drive is but I have had good results so far... At first I was getting quite slow write speeds to this hard drive, around 30MB/s, but after rebooting my laptop I now regularly get over 100MB/s transfers, both read and write, so try that if your drive is slow. Also, connect directly to a USB3.0 class port on your computer, not a hub or older USB2.0 port. I've now backed up nearly 400GB of data without any problems, there is 543GB free of the 921GB total (1TB model). NB: I reformatted (using quick format) as NTFS since I am using WIndows and have files bigger than 4GB in size, the drive comes formatted as FAT32 which is quite strange, I would expect at least exFAT on a large external hard drive, FAT32 is more common for USB flash drives for example.

I got this for my Xbox 360 for "Bad Update" and it works a treat. No complains, runs fast and have a massive game library installed with still half the storage remaining. Will definitely buy for storage in the future

DO NOT BUY THIS HARD DRIVE. This HD packed up within three months of use, unable to mount and leaving me unable to access client projects. Sonnics have offered no support whatsoever in terms of solving the issue. Having spent weeks troubleshooting, they only offered me a refund or replacement - no data retrieval - even though it is their product that is defective. What's more, they will not issue my refund until I send the defective HD back to them (at my own expense), which I currently cannot do as I will have to now hire someone else to retrieve the data. It's not worth the cheap price - it will cost you way more, in both cash and headaches. Buy Maxtor instead.

The hard drive is very easy to use and I've had no issues with it on my laptop so far. Easy to upload files and pictures, speed isn't as quick as it as whats listed, but its decent for what I need. Its reliable and a good compact size so doesnt take to much space.

Ich habe die Festplatte für den TechniSat-Fernseher meiner Eltern gekauft als Speichermedium für die Aufnahmefunktion. Nachdem ein USB-Stick nicht funktionierte und auch nicht formatiert werden konnte, hat der TV diese Festplatte sofort erkannt. Es musste nichts formatiert werden und konnte sofort verwendet werden.
