OK I've waited a month or so before I submitted this review. I was gonna give the Kick Ash basket 5 starts, and I rarely give 5 stars, so I let the honeymoon be over, now that I'm used to it. Well as you can see, I'm still giving the Original Kiss Ash Basket 5 stars. It is a perfect must have accessory for your Big Green Egg, Kamodo Joe, Primo or any other ceramic they make one to fit. Mine fits perfectly in my large BGE. I removed the bottom cast iron coal grate and the airflow I get greatly improves my coal startup times and overall temp control. No holes to get clogged up with ash. Actually its not so much ash, as its's little bits of charcoal that restrict the holes. With the kick ash they don't. I simply fill up that Kick Ash basket and seems to be just the right amount of lump charcoal. It may be my imagination, or just the quality of the awesome FOGO charcoal I use, but I swear the Kick Ash makes my lump charcoal last longer. Once completely cool (next DAY for my Big Green Egg), take out the basket shake it over your garden or stone drive way and your good for the next cook. You'l be amazed at the small amount of ash, since the combustion process is so much more efficient with the basket. I think you will like this. VERY well crafted piece and good looking piece of stainless steel with quality stainless steel welds. Clearly a high quality with attention to detail. IMHO a must have accessory.

I bought this because of all the recommendations on the Big Green Egg Reddit forums. Man, were they right. This thing is awesome, and cleanup is a breeze. I would call this a must-have accessory for the BGE.

This is a great product and I really want to love it. However, as I used it for either long slow cooks or fast hot cooks (pizza), I noticed I was running out of charcoal before the end of the cook. Especially making 4+ pizzas at 500+ degrees. Came to the realization that the basket holds way less charcoal than the just using the ceramic firebox in the BGE (without the basket). So, I am unfortunately back to not using the insert.

Another perfect egg accessory. So much easier to keep the charcoal ready to start and clean out the ashes mixed in. This was also recommended by another egg owner who swears by it.

I love this! Get rid of that clunky wholely cast iron grate and install this instead. Take it out and/or shake it out; save your used charcoal and/or fill again for the later session. Just getting rid of that cast iron alone let alone not having to push debris through those cast iron holes more than makes up for the cost.

This thing is awesome! It allows me to keep ash out of the egg to improve air flow. Prior to the Kick Ash Basket, I would stir the lump charcoal and sweet it out the bottom using the ash tool. It worked but not that well. The best way to clean it was to burn off the rest of the charcoal and then sweep out the ash. With this basket, you can do a through a clean every time and get great air flow and get your egg up to temperature very quickly. The product is well made and I would definitely buy it again!
