RotatrimProfessional M36 (91cm) Trimmer

I got mine used for an insanely good price and that factors into the review because used equipment is always an iffy prospect, especially with wear and tear on the blade. Let me just say that I regret not buying one of these years ago. It is AMAZING. I was all trimmer-happy about my little Swingline. Not even in the ballpark. Wonderful accuracy even with heavier materials. I was sweating bullets when I laid down a sheet of matboard for the first time. No catching, no stuttering, just a smooth, beautiful cut. In the past I've even made my pencil markings thicker to adjust for cutting tolerance. LOL, not with this baby (did I mention it was a mechanical pencil?!!!). If you can afford it, get it new so you can get the A guides, but other than that this is a great rotary cutter and a good weight for its size.

I recently ordered a Rotatrim RCM36, expecting the level of quality and accuracy this company describes. What I got instead was a device with so many QC issues I couldn't believe my eyes. First, the piece of MDF that makes up the cutting surface was bowed substantially. How can you possible cut something straight on a surface that is bowed? The metal guide was off by 1/16". Unreal. The plastic holder that is supposed to put pressure down on the material you are cutting is simply pinned to either end, 3 feet apart. The result is that your material is not totally flush with the surface, and the cut is not straight. Finally, the cutter wasn't actually mounted square with the guide edge. Wow.

Excellent, accurate cutter. I used another for 10 years and it performed beautifully. Blade is self sharpening too. I wouldn't consider any other brand!

Is fantastic as expected. I bought a second hand one in 1968 and it has worked great all of these years, limited use true, but still going strong until I gave it away when we moved because it was only 20 inch (bought M36).Before you use it, READ the limited instructions and watch the uTube videos. One never does that for something so simple and obvious, right :))The uTube videos have lots of tips AND tell why you only cut right to left on the bigger machines, and how to fix it if you want to.My special requirement of cutting "see thru" (VERY thin and fragile) silk bonded to paper backing works beautifully, AFTER I read the instructions and watched the videos.Being paranoid I had tested my material on a Rotatrim at a Fed Ex office, and made a mess. I would never have guessed that on the bigger machines you could only cut from right to left. Left to right is instinctive to me, but WRONG. That may be why I made the mess in the test that I did at a FedEx office. Thought it was the machine being old and abused by years of customers, but it could well have been ME.THEN LATER after I got my machine, I saw the uTube videos (and read the instructions). It works GREAT.

This trimmer is being used to cut down photographic paper. It's easy to use.
