A very detailed book
This is not for the novice sewer, so if you need to learn the basics I'd probably look elsewhere. For us that are lucky enough to sew and dress make then I think that it is a great book. Lots of ideas, both on trend and old fashioned - it takes all sorts after all. It also gives good pointers of what you will need to set up your own curtain making business. I was considering it until I read the book, but it's far too involved for my liking. I just hate paying someone else for straight sewing - my local curtain fabric seller charges £77 per hour. I suppose if you have a large set up it is costly but blimey! I am happy with the book. Dining room curtains here I come!

The best curtain making guide out there
This book is simply amazing. It covers everything that you need to know to make wonderful curtains and more besides. Every question I’ve ever had was answered here, and has been far better than hours of trawling the Internet, only to find conflicting advice or insufficient detail. Please get this book, it’s the only one you need for truly authoritative and tested instructions, and clearly illustrated. I’ve never made curtains before, but already I can see the professional results I’m achieving for my first eyelet headed drapes. Thank you Merrick and Day for sharing your knowledge and experience so completely.

Just brilliant
This book is what it says in the title - there is nothing not covered. It also makes the subject far less intimidating for the beginner. Note I bought mine new from the Merrill and Day website for a quarter of the current used prices listed here. There is also everything anyone could need to make soft furnishings.

Truly the only curtain book to buy
This is the book you need for all things curtain. Inspiring photos and detailed instructions for all levels of ability. It truly stands out from the crowded arena of endless guides to soft furnishings. And the guides are much more elegant than most. Many others seem to be leading you to a place where your entire home is bedecked in ruffles and frills purely to provide you with pointless projects. Here we are shown how to make the things we actually need, whilst still giving us information and inspiration to create beautiful home.

If you want to make good quality curtains, this is the book to buy.
I first bought this book in 2019 when I wanted to interline some curtains, which I had already cut out. I have now used it to work out how much material I needed and make a set of lined curtains. The more I use it, the more I appreciate the detail included in the book. If you want to make a quick pair of curtains on a sewing machine, it will still be useful but the cost would not be justified. However, it it invaluable for making curtains that are hand finished and look more bespoke. It takes you through each process, step by step. The book also explains how to measure and make curtains for unusual shaped widows, as well as valances, blinds and cushions.
