Yongsheng Junlai 630 Acrylic Fountain Pen, Size 8 Medium Nib with Piston Filling System, Piano Black Transparent Fence Ink Tank with Torpedo Shape Design Smooth Writing Pen (Gold Trim)

This is a very interesting pen. Purchased after reading a post by Mr. Richard Binder (a legend in the pen collector's community, a true scholar and a gentleman with an encyclopedic wealth of knowledge about fountain pens). This pen looks like a Montblanc 149 but it is clearly marked "Junlai 630 - Made in Shanghai" on the band around the cap. It does NOT have the Montblanc star, it is not a "replica" (meaning fake, intended to deceive). Yes, looks almost identical with Montblanc....but it is a 40$ pen and not a 1,000$ pen. The nib is obviously steel at this price (and it writes very smoothly). And the plastic will not crack if dropped, unlike the "precious resin" (meaning ordinary low quality plastic with fancy marketing") of Montblanc that will crack with dropped (and then you will find out that their fancy marketing is not backed up by quality and the warranty will not cover the cracking because it is an "accident" or "mishandling"). Overall fun pen if you want to "try" how a Montblanc would fit your hand without spending the big bucks and be part of the snobbery (Montblanc wallets? watches? briefcases? anything else the marketing department can dream of to suck money out of your wallet? the "image"? I do have the means to buy a Montblanc and I have pens in my collection at that price level but I refuse to be part of the whole snobbery). So, in conclusion Junlai is a fun pen, well built, amazing quality and comfort for a 40$ pen (even comes with a wrench for disassembling the piston if needed).

I know this is modeled after the Mont Blanc 149, and there is an entire debate on copying styles, so I'm not getting into that. On it's own, this is a beautiful pen. The #8 Medium is nicely wet without being a 'gusher.' It is very smooth with just the slightest big of feedback, depending on your paper. This is my first Junlai, and I'm very happy with the build quality. The resin feels nice, not like a cheap plastic. The pen has a nice, comfortable heft to it. The fit and finish is very smooth. It is a large pen, but I have large hands so it is very comfortable in my hand. The piston mechanism is extremely smooth, and works very well. I am very happy with this.

This fountain pen is a delight..... and supported by superb service and value. Thank you so much. More or less a copy of the Montblanc 149 it doesn't have the same luxurious feel and the nib isn't gold but buy one! You'll really enjoy a classy writing experience in a pen that might become your daily carry - which the 149 isn't because, were I to lose it, a replacement would be around 800 pounds sterling. Be careful when you first take it out of the box. It's so shiny and slippery but after 2 days' writing that clean finish will lessen and it becomes totally normal to the touch and very comfortable.

Ok first let me say that for the price, this pen is really a bargain. If this is your first introduction into fountain pens, be aware that the nib may need a little tuning to write properly. The tines on mine were super tight and it skipped really bad. I had to open them and smooth the nib and now its really nice to use. I use Iroshizuku ink as its very lubricating and flows perfect for me. The weight is comfortable to me and the grip suits a medium to large hand. Overall pretty decent. Just be prepared to deal with (maybe) nib issues. Edit--Flush this pen before using!! I had a ton of grease that was clogging the feed and I flushed it for 5 minutes to get it flowing properly.

The Junlai (Wingsung, Yongshen, etc) 630 pens are among the best Chinese made pens I've come across. For the price, these pens are amazing. I loved the first one I got so much that I had to come back and get them in other colors. I have 3 so far and all of them have been very solid. The large #8 nibs are very smooth and nice and juicy. All 3 have been very solid. I wish they had a broader range of colors; I'd probably get them in every color. I know at this price point, you can worry about quality control and it's a very valid concern as I've bought other chinese fountain pens where the QC just hasn't been great, they are so cheap, you can almost consider them disposable. But after having bought 3 of these so far, all 3 have been of excellent quality so far. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. NOTE! Just be aware these are piston fillers. These do not work with cartridges or converters. You will need a bottle of fountain pen ink to use this pen which is not included. These pens do not come with ink.

Unpacking the pen is not bad, for what you pay it's not a bad proposition but I was not expecting to do much other than ink up and writing. However once I got the pen out of the box the piston was not aligned for max fill. This was my first piston filler I had to align, other name brands ive purchased twsbi and lamy have worked out of the box without needing alignment. When I disassembled the pen to get the piston knob at the right point I found some junk on the piston seal, seemed like some sort of fuzz or dust that made it's way in during assembly. I pulled it away and that was that. The pen hard starts nearly every time I am not writing continuously. The first 5mm or so of travel the pen does not put ink down. Sometimes between words it will loose ink at the tip and hardstart again. See photos of my writing sample. The first stroke of The J and many Ts are half there. On the one minute uncapped test, it inked when I got halfway. I'm sure a nib swap or adjustment would solve it, but a little dissapointing when you want a reliable writer. It's certainly nicer looking than many budget FPs from brand names at this price point but reliability is questionable. I think if it can write reliably it is worth it over say a twsbi eco if you want a nice looking pen. Honestly though I'd have a hard time recommending this pen to non FP enthusiasts because it takes some work out of the box.

マイスターシュテュック149の模倣モデルです。 同等サイズのニブを持つセーラーのプロギアKOP持っていますが吸入式ではないのでコレを購入しました。 中華万年筆にありがちですが軸やニブの研磨が甘く曇っているので、ピカールで磨いたら素晴らしい光沢感が出ました。（ニブは金メッキが薄くなります。） 光沢感が出ると濃い青緑の軸色がなかなかに良く高級感があります。ニブの付け根の黒リングがアクセントになってスタイリッシュです。工作精度も偏心とか気にならない程度で良いと思います。 ニブはMなので結構太く細かな字を書くには不向きですので私は自分で好きなように研ぎました。EFからF相当にしましたが、インクフローも良好なので結果的に満足な書き味になりました。 重量バランスは比較的後ろめで首軸を持つ場合はキャップポストなしでちょうどいい感じでした。逆に胴軸を持つ方はキャップポストしても良いと思います。プロギアKOPは前重心なのでキャップポストしたほうがしっくり来ます。結構違う感触ですがどちらも書きやすいと思いました。149に似せたバランスだと思いますので、よくできていると思います。 ご自分で調整できる方には安くて作りのいいペンだと思いますので大いにおすすめです。

Very good pen but a pity that it’s only sold with a fine nib. Good for the Chinese market but too restrictive for the European market. Design heavily “borrowed” from Montblanc. Quality adequate for a beater but without the sublime quality of a Montblanc pen.

I waited to use the item several times before posting my review. I am so impressed with the quality. The nib is smooth like butter, the piston filler works just as well as my high end pieces. I am so happy with this purchase. 100% recommend. I wish I could also order the fine nib. I would get it in a heartbeat, also it arrived really fast which was a pleasant surprise.
