Ida Engvoll (The Bridge) stars as Rebecka Martinsson, an unconventional lawyer in Stockholm with a successful career and a handsome boyfriend. When a childhood friend suddenly dies, Rebecka returns to her remote hometown above the Arctic Circle for the funeral. Although the death had been ruled an accident, Rebecka finds evidence of murder and contacts her friend in the police force, Anna Maria Mella (Eva Melander). Together they hunt for a killer, but what they uncover might shake Rebecka to her core. With more cases to solve, and Rebecka proving herself an asset to Mella’s police team, Rebecka must decide whether to go back to her big-city life in Stockholm or stay in Kiruna and confront her past. Set against the stark, stunning landscapes of northern Sweden, these haunting adaptations of Åsa Larsson’s award-winning crime novels feature sharp writing, complex characters, and searing performances. Swedish Language with English subtitles. Review: A MASTERPIECE OF A FEMALE JACK TAYLOR. LOVED IT 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟! - Jack Taylor is the story of an ex-cop of the Irish Guard who has a weekly detective episode through his unshaven, disheveled clothing covered up by a long wool trench coat that he refuses to return to "the guard". A lovable, honest, flawed main character. Rebecca (forgive my spelling) is a city lawyer who finds her hometown roots when forced to solve a local murder. But she is a Swedish Jack Taylor! I know, I know, how can a beautiful actress portray a flawed chainsmoking Jack Taylor (she starts smoking). She does. SHE DOES BIG TIME. An absolute tour de force! Draws you in, grinds you up and spits you out. I loved it. I loved both Jack Taylor and Rebecka Martinsson. Absolutely tv serial drama at its finest. Characters with punch, flaws pouring out and high crimes to be solved. A MASTERPIECE. BUY IT. BUY IT NOW! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Review: Read the books first. - I first met Rebecka Martinsson in the Asa Larsson books - SUN STORM, THE BLOOD SPILT, etc. and loved the 5-book series. The TV series, Rebecka Martinsson, seems to be loosely based on Larsson's books. While not as compelling as the books, I still enjoyed the TV series. The acting was great, the setting (Kiruna, Sweden) was cold and foreboding, adding to the darkness of the plots. Rebecka is a complicated character with a painful past. She teams up with Inspector Anna-Maria Mella (another character who seems more interesting in the books than the TV version) to investigate the crimes. I would love to see a Series 2 but Larsson has only written 5 Martinsson books thus far, so I am not sure what the future holds for the TV series. For those who want more Rebecka, the movie "Solstorm" (based on the first book SUN STORM) was released in 2007 in Sweden but I am not sure if this is readily available for viewing. I would recommend you read the Larsson books if you enjoyed the TV series.

Moody Mystery in the Arctic North
Good story, compelling acting. I thought the series was well done, and the cinematography excellent. Ida Engvoll is wonderful as the tormented and disillusioned prosecutor who is caught between two worlds. Her traumatic childhood colors her life decisions, and even in the end, she is unable to commit to the life she so desperately wants. I am hoping season 2 will continue to build her character and provide enough good stories to keep the audience engaged. Overall, this was a good binge-worthy series. It is dark and moody, and with subtitles, something is lost in translation, but nonetheless, it is worth the time to watch.

Get swept up and away....can't wait for next season!
Amazing....!! Story line(s), acting, scenery...fantastic!! I watched it over a few nights and was so bummed for it to end! Yes, the Swedes are a bit dark & brooding but I'll take this over our lame, beaten to death Law & Order formulaic dark, monotonous type shows any day. Each episode has twists or turns you don't expect, yet the arc of their stories, the character development and relationships that grows with each episode weaves it all together. It's believable. You can feel and know each of them but it's not overt or over acted and it all seems real and believable. Just a fantastic series from start to finish. I look forward to the next episode!

Very good Scandinavian crime series
If you love Swedish and Danish TV series, you'll love this. "Rebecka" is an attorney in a prestigious Stockholm law firm who returns to her rural hometown to bury her surrogate mother. She has an uncanny ability to solve crimes and solves the mystery of that death. She remains in her hometown and becomes a Prosecutor who works with the Police to solve crimes. This series outlines 3-stories told in 2-parts. I loved it. The setting is thick forests with frozen lakes, blankets of snow, dark, cloudy days, barking dogs and homemade Moonshine. All the actors are wonderful and the stories excellent. "Rebecka" is a flawed character, which makes her interesting. I hope there is a Season 2!

Very good crime/mystery series
Very good crime/mystery series, with intelligent plots and excellent acting. I'm not much for subtitles but after the first two episodes they almost disappeared because of my interest in the story. Ida Engvoll is perfect for the character she plays and is very easy on the eyes, and the other actors fit their roles extremely well also. I look forward to more Swedish dramas along these lines.

Good Nordic Noir series
I just stumbled onto this and found it compelling. I love the lead actress, Ida Engvoll. Not all of the episodes are strong, but the beginning and end are great. If you like Nordic Noir, you'll like this. If you like strong female leads, you'll like this. (I do agree with one of the reviewers that the dog scene at the end was unnecessary.) It's not as good as the Scandinavian series The Bridge, but it's good.

a mini-series based on books buy a talented author!
These mysteries are based on the authors fictional attorney Rebecca Martinson, who has a troubled childhood. She moves back to the arctic mining town of Kiruna where the author grew up. Her star character solves mysteries while trying to find herself. These stories delve deep. Very interesting.
