Beautifully made and drawn
This book is a pleasure to hold, open and turn the pages. I seldom read graphic novels and it probably requires a different set of literacy skills to those that I have developed. It’s a ‘picture book’ but probably for young adults and older readers. The story is principally about relationships - between children and parents and younger people making close friendships. The relationship between people, other animals (birds) and the physical environment is also key. The temptation is to read the story too quickly. No matter if you do. You will want to turn back to the beginning and read again anyway.

Beautiful book, even nicer drawings and story.

beautiful book, average narrative
the book is beautiful from cover to page quality to the artwork inside. the narrative starts out enticingly enough and there's enough to appreciate in the purely visual form of storytelling at the beginning but personally speaking, it didn't end in anything explosive or particularly revelatory. also, a story isn't necessarily 'universal' just because it is not mediated by language and this is quite a localized story that probably works better for children/young adults growing up in largely urban, 'denaturalized' environments. adults would probably find the conflict resolution a little weak.
