Looks Great - Especially the Photos
Just got this book, doing this preliminary review mainly because I want to point out that, in my opinion, the photos are NOT "grainy" as was stated in another review. They look very clear to me and I am not a young guy at 58 years old.Are they perfect high-gloss photos like you might see in a glossy paged picture book?...well, no, but these are not what I would ever call "grainy"......in fact it would have never even crossed my mind to think anything could be even slightly wrong with them (which there isn't) had I not read the "grainy" comment. I guess it could be that the earlier print runs weren't printed as well as the books being printed now, or maybe they upgraded the photo quality somehow.I am building my first AR, and after glancing through it and reading a few things, compared to what I have seen in looking up stuff online that you don't know is correct or not, using this book appears, to me anyway, to be a far better way to go - safer, easier, smarter.

Excellent guide for most people think maintenance manual
I have been shooting and cleaning guns for many years and the AR is the first platform that was not self explanatory to me. I purchased this book as a reference guide to allow me to become familiar with the parts and how they work and for me the book was a bargain. It has a ring binder to allow easy access to all the pages for reading and making copies. This book will be helpful for most people, it allows beginners to have a maintenance manual to take apart and reassemble their AR for cleaning, it allows people to build as well. The author is a competitive shooter therefore the title; The Competitive Builders Guide. I found the photos very clear. This book is like a maintenance manual showing the tools, parts, and components you need to build an AR.I did not find the Little Crow Gunworks AR-15 Trigger Guard Roll Pin Pusher in the book, that was the only surprise for me.I recommend The New Competitive Ar15: The Ultimate Technical Guide: The Rifle, the Ammunition, the Shooter as it has a lot of imformation on the gun and cleaning.

All you need
I have a lot of experience building AR 15 lower's. I purchased this for the upper build information as I want to start building upper receivers for my competition AR's. The book covers everything that I needed to build my upper receivers and I have built 2 to date that work great. This is the first book I have bought for this purpose and I have nothing to compare it to. I will say that looking thought is there is enough information in it to make even a novice builder capable of building one. My biggest concern with the upper build was torqueing the barrel nut and getting it right along with the head spacing. This book covers it all and it was actually a lot easier than what I thought it was going to be. The book does not cover the latest build tools that have come out but that is to be expected as it is not a brand new book. I would recommend this book as it covers everything with good text and lots on pictures.

Very helpful, with some cautions
Although this book was very helpful for my first ground-up build, it must be used with caution. Some of the assembly pictures are not clear, and in some cases incorrect. In particular, the pre-assembly picture of the hammer spring is wrong. If you assemble the hammer like this, the gun will not work. The spring must go behind the hammer, not in front of the hammer like the picture shows. The hammer assembly pictures seem correct, but are hard to see because of lighting, orientation, and obstructions. The book is useful for someone (like me) with some gunsmithing experience. However, a rank beginner may want to have someone with experience help him.

I wish I had found this book 6 months ago
I wish I had found this book earlier. There are a LOT of books on AR-15 builds. I have ordered a number of them from Amazon. This is by FAR the best of the bunch. The author knows what he is talking about. I love the the starts off taking about what tools to get and more importantly, what tools NOT to get. He goes into great detail on the various parts of your build and talks about the various components and what to look for.The photography is also good. Not excellent, but good. For someone that has never put one of these together, the photography is critical.Long story short, if you are looking for a book to guide you through your AR build, get THIS ONE. Seriously. This is the one to get. Stop reading all the reviews and hit BUY now. this is your book.

Add to cart !!
I don't have every book on building an AR-15, so I can't say this one is the best. What I can say is that it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people said it was. This is a book for people who want to build and AR15, and do it the right way. The author has a somewhat informal writing style, and I really like it.Once I received this book, I flipped through the pages, and read various sections. Then I immediately came back to amazon, and looked for more from him. Keep them coming Zediker!

A very good help fot the AR15 builder. Worth the money.
I found a lot of good tips and tools in this book. I used it to build my first AR15 from scratch. With this book I know I did it right. It is written by someone with a lot of hands on experience. The spiral binding helps to use it while I am working on my gun. I don't know if it is the best book out there, but I know it really works for me. I especially like the plenty and large pictures in top quality. Last but not least it helps to test the proper and safe operation of the gun and it leads you to the full understanding how it really works, or should work.

Great BOOK!!
I didn't but this so I could build an AR-15, I bought it hoping it would turn out to be a good AR-15 information guide for the two AR-15's I've got. Worked out GREAT!!! Great pictures and descriptions on how to build ARs AND you can also just reverse procedures to strip your AR down to the last detent pin!!!! Took a chance buying this but after looking at all the other available AR books out there this one covers anything I may ever need to do to my rifles. If you're doing a build or want a very comprehensive maintenance manuall buy this one first and it will be the only one you'll ever need.
