Ronald Spores has dedicated his career to the study of the Mixteca in Mexico. In this book he joined efforts with Andrew Balkansky in order to cover the history of the region, from the first archeological evidence of occupation to present-day migrations. Both writers, each with his specialty, have helped create this panoramic view of great erudition. It might be too broad for a specialized student, but anyone who's looking for a introduction to all major topics of Mixtec history is going to find this book pleasant and thorough.

This is an excellent book, but it is simply a new printing of an older book. It is an excellent reference book for anyone interested in Mixtec culture.
