I Can Draw People (Usborne Playtime)

Simple and colorful but not enough pictures to try
I bought this for my 6 year old son who only draws stick figures. As an art teacher, this is quite frustrating :(He was interested in the book right away (it's colorful) and spent time reading through it and studying it. He then grabbed some crayons and mimicked and followed the instructions. He was quite proud of himself and his drawings afterwards. These drawings are easy follow and colorful and easy on the eyes. The only con is that there aren't that many pictures to try. The book is quite short. And when he takes out the "girl stuff" (like ballerina) there's even less to draw and follow.Otherwise a great book

Excellent first drawing book
My 5 year old son has really enjoyed this book. His first drawing book was the Usborne step by step drawing animals book which I also recommend. This book is helping him go from stick figure drawings to more detailed drawings of people. The left photo was just days before receiving this book. And the right picture was his first drawing out of this book. It is a great step by step drawing book. And I love that it is non-consumable unlike the Usborne step by step drawing books. We just have a drawing pad that he can use along with this.

Gave my 5-year-old inspiration to draw more complex scenes
My 5-year-old came home from preschool one day with an incredibly realistic drawing of a girl on horse. Up until them, her drawings were stick figures, so I said, "Who drew this?" thinking it was from a friend. Nope. Her school had this book, and she got interested and starting drawing like crazy - figure skaters (complete with hair flowing in the breeze), pirates, and lots of people on horses. Once she got the basic principles, she was able to apply them to drawings of her own imagination. When I compare her drawings from before this book to those after, I can't believe it. And she is so proud.

inspires complete drawings
I like this book because it shows the characters in a couple of different positions and with a background, so it gives the child an idea for a drawing that they can build on. Plus it's a little more advanced than children's drawings, but not in a different world like many of the how-to-draw books, so it fits in well with what an eight-year-old might draw naturally. There are eleven two page spreads: workman, angel, giant, pirate, queen and king, ballerina, soccer player, scuba diver, astronaut, parachutist, skier, ice skater and cowboy, then two pages of faces and three for a horse and rider.

Drawing book
I bought this item for my niece who is 6 years old. She was having trouble drawing school projects and getting very frustrated. I remember buying these books for my boys when they were this age. She loves the books and so does her mom. The books help show how to draw by breaking it down in steps. it makes drawing not as so overwhelming if art doesn't come naturally to you.

Great beginner drawing book
Such a wonderful beginner drawing book. I got this for my four year old so we could perhaps move past stick figures (as she regularly draws far more complex things). She loves it! It's a short book, but has plenty of concepts to help her develop. Fun for both of us.

great
Great for learning to draw simple people step by step. My son's drawing has improved immensely at home using this book. He took alot of time and perseverence but with this book his pictures are now more detailed. Be prepared to spend alot of time practicing especially if your kids are not natural artists (just like the parents!)

Famous artist in the making!
Bought for my 7 year old niece who loves to draw. I believe it will be very helpful - it certainly improved my attempts after I tried a few of the suggestions and I can't draw a straight line!

just right for younger children
I tried this book out with children aged 4 - 6 and they loved copying the designs (with adult help) to make realistic looking characters.
