I have studied this book with much eagerness within the last few days.It is hard to find a book that offers more complete coverage of machine learning, its past, presence, future, data, use cases, applications, technical breadth and depth. The author has treated both the breadth and depth of AI/ML, and its usecases and applications with precision and coverage of the AI/ML umbrella. The past, present and future of AI/ML over hundred years is not only predicated upon the research and engineering advances of the core subject, but also on several dimensions starting with the data and requirements driven by industry 4.0. An important statement the author Dr. Aggarwal makes is about the  quality and availability of data and its various facets that have and that will drive machine learning.The contents of the book demonstrates the mastery of the author on computing and technology. The author Dr. Alok Aggarwal is a renowned scientist with foundational contributions to computing for more than four decades, contributions as a technical and business leader and as a serial entrepreneur. He draws his vast experience and expertise at the highest level. Thus the book is a must read for someone who wants to have a great holistic understanding of AI/ML.On a minor point, I think  the book should have been just named ‘The Hundred Years of AI/ML’ or something along that line.

If you're like me - a normal person! - you too have probably spent the last few years listening to people talk about Artificial Intelligence and having no idea what they are talking about. So I've been nodding and agreeing with people at cocktail parties and just hoping no one realized how utterly clueless I am. This book is a perfect explainer and guide to show how AI / Machine Learning developed, the different forms and applications, as well as placing it in the context of the continuing cycles of change and innovation that made up the previous series of industrial revolutions. Dr. Aggarwal is the perfect guide to this history, as he has been involved with the development of AI for several decades and has worked in different fields and applications. The subject is complicated but his explanations are not - this will really give you a sense of the history and how one innovation led to another. I can only imagine that he will have to have a second edition of this pretty quickly as things are moving so quickly - but this book is a wonderful guide to it. You will know more, you will be less freaked out about AI taking your job, and it will make you feel better about the many ways AI can enhance and integrate into our daily lives. And you won't feel dumb at cocktail parties any more! Highly recommended.

Alok Aggarwal has always been a thoughtful and ahead-of-his-time professional. He has a good ability to see ahead and position himself on how things will evolve. In this book, he shares his deep analysis of the evolution of AI and its impact on everything from biology to financial services. A lot of people are thoughtful practitioners of the sciences--like Alok--but few take the time and creative energy to put it in a book for others to absorb.
