Good Read.
I really liked this book. I enjoyed the story line and the characters. It left me wanting to see more about the surviving Cadians.

Beautiful story arcs, eyesores of contradictions and gaps
I adore the scale the author adds to the 40k universe, showing the scale of both the imperial guard and of black crusades. The main and supporting characters have their moments where they have some personality and some charm for the level of detail it’s written with. But this book is riddled in my opinion by macguffins, plot holes and outright contradictions. Contradictions range from the same officer being referred to as major and a colonel in the same page to a chaos space Marine war band being at two places at the same time. The story takes the worst parts of both a centralized story around a core group of characters and large focus story based around the overall event. The book jumps between several characters and units with often with no introduction for a few pages, sometimes existing just long enough to be killed off two pages later with no impact on the story. Because you’re constantly jumping between these stories it then clouds the overall status of the war for Cadia since it’s giving brief indications of the larger world between its jumpy updates on shallow characters. This book could have been so much more if it focused on either extreme, giving a strong center cast or clear view of the world.Instead you have a story that as wide as an ocean and deep as a puddleTL;DR a good weekend read with neat action scenes, but don’t read too much into details or else you’ll have an aneurysm from the plot holes.

Great Book
I loved the book and it was even better because I played BGA and it was great to understand the wider lore here and there.

Action packed, but jumpy
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, but I sometimes had an issue with how swiftly the story between characters jumped around. A great read for any fan of 40k!

An outstanding read
Having been a longtime 40k can and a former GW employee during the eye of terror csmpaign, this brought a lot of detail to the fall of Car is as well as putting a very human face on it. Well worth it and highly recommended.

Couldn’t put it down
Great book if you ever get tired of reading about the power armored giants and just want to read about ordinary people and also gives a good backstory to an important part of 40k lore.

Thoroughly enjoyable
Long time 40k fan. Read all the HH books and many more 40k books inbetween. A very enjoyable book but somewhat short as well. I finished it in 3 days.I would say it felt a bit dumbed down, a bit like a book the wife might pick up no at the airport from one of those wire racks. However this was just what I needed at this time.Exciting read, dealing with some momentous points in 40k lore.Biggest disappointment was trying to find out if the second book in this 40k+ series, soecifically following the story of Creed had been realised yet. It appears it hasn't.Congrats to the author.

Dispatches from the front - all of them
Justin D Hill here gives us a full novel to follow on from his stories of Ursarkar Creed. But Creed’s are not the only eyes through which we see the planet-wide battle to defend Cadia from Chaos. Hill deftly manages a multi-viewpoint story which manages to give us an account of the battle from the highest officer to the lowest grunt soldier. The pace rarely lets up, and it is a very hard book to put down. A fantastic addition to the canon.

Tragic masterpiece
Not only is this book well written, but it fleshes out the fairly bland Cadian forces of the Imperial guard nicely. The main story line draws you along at a good pace, whilst the harrowing sub plots have your emotions rising and falling like the tides of the empyrean. I loved the mentions of other Imperial forces fighting on Cadia, who ordinarily would take the spotlight, whilst firmly staying focused on the men and women of the many regiments fighting for their homeworld. Thoroughly enjoyable and look forward to reading book 2.

While the people of Cadia fight on, Cadia stands.
Great read. I'm going to have to go back and find the Creed short stories. I read a lot of Space Marine novels but am really getting into the Imperial army novels now too and this is one of the best.Bought Cadian Honour as a result of this one and am flying through it!

CADIA STANDS
This book had me on the field with the Cadians. I felt their losses and victories.Helps to understand a little of how some of the events leading up the rift unfold.
