The book is well written and laid out.It takes you through the history of the roc from inception to its disbanding. It covers the building and construction techniques used in the making of the bunkersThe equipment used by the roc while the bunkers were in use.Present day use and restoration of some of the roc posts. All in all it’s a cracking book very informative and well written and if this is a subject which you are interested in they I can not recommend it’s purchase highly enough

A very holistic view of the Corps, its equipment and people.
This is a superb book. It is made up mainly of high quality colour photos. The ones showing equipment old and new made me smile when I remembered how we used to use them. I was a a member of 4 group for around 12 years, both as post and center crews. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It will be of interest to any ex member of the corps, and anyone interested in the history of the Corps. This is a great companion for the other ROC book, Attack Warning Red.

Info on the underground atomic bunkers
This book is excellent for information about the now disused underground ROC bunkers built for and during the cold war, the reason I bought the book is because there is a bunker in my village, I can remember it being built in about 1956. Interested in local history i have always wondered exactly what it and the others across the country were all about, thanks to this book i now know chapter and verse.

A well-written, comprehensive, interesting review
This is a very readable, beautifully illustrated history of ROC posts that covers the reason for building them, their design, how they were built, how they were manned and how drills were run. Rich in detail, the book provides a vivid picture of what these places were like. It also provides a quick factual (not political) account of the 'attacks' made on these places by some antinuclear campaigners. It would have been interesting to read something from their point of view in this section (as attacking a purely defensive, unarmed measuring post seems an odd thing to do). Having described the posts in their heyday, the book then covers decommissioning and the subsequent fates of a selection of posts, including ruination, preservation and inspired re-purposing. If you like in-depth descriptions of small subjects, you will like this book!

Underground Monitoring Posts
Ever wondered about those small fascinating concrete structures dotted around the landscape? Well, this is the book that reveals all. Lavishly dotted with both colour and mono photos, this very thorough text explains all about the ROC Underground Monitoring Posts. A very recommended read for all interested in underground structures!

An Observer's View
As an underground post observer from 1971 to 1987 I am delighted with this excellent book. It is a quality production and I can only imagine the work that has gone into compiling this worthy tribute to the Royal Observer Corps. In true ROC tradition I set about trying to find errors but, if there are any, they have eluded me. I thoroughly recommend this book and its insight into truly dangerous times that few knew anything about.
