I've had my Bissell Little Green for about four years now, and for most of that time I was using whatever cleaning solution was on sale at the grocery store. A few months ago I finally switched to the official Bissell formula, and — fine, Bissell, you win — it genuinely makes a difference. On fresh stains, this stuff is almost unfairly effective. Red wine on a cream-colored ottoman: gone. Coffee on the car upholstery: gone. A mystery stain of unknown origin and suspicious character on the living room rug: handled, no questions asked. The enzymatic formula clearly does something that generic solutions don't, and I've stopped pretending otherwise. The smell is clean without being overwhelming. Some carpet cleaners leave behind a fragrance so aggressive it basically announces itself every time you walk into the room for a week. This one dissipates reasonably quickly and just smells like clean, which is all I want. Now, the honest part — set-in stains are a different story. A stain that's been living in your upholstery for several weeks has made itself at home, and no solution, including this one, is going to perform miracles. I've had good results with a soak-and-repeat approach, but go in with realistic expectations if you're battling something truly entrenched. Four stars instead of five because the bottle size versus the price point requires some mental gymnastics to justify, especially when you're running through it quickly on a big job. A larger format option at a proportionally better price would push this to five stars without hesitation. But honestly? Stop buying the off-brand stuff. Just get this.
