Compact, accurate and inexpensive
It was a bit smaller than I imagined from the picture (the top platter is square, 6 by 6 inches), which is good since I don't have much counter space. When you turn it on there is a 4 second delay before it displays 0.0, which is slightly annoying but necessary for the unit to initialize itself. The Tare button is useful for subtracting the weight of a container and find the weight of the content. There is a Hold button so you can take the sample off without losing (or having to memorize) the weight while you process the sample and before you write the measurement down (though I don't use it much). There is an optional feature to turn the unit off after a minute to save batteries (which I have selected). Some reviewers complain that the unit turns itself off unexpectedly, but you can set this feature off if you want. I tested the scale with 14 weights ranging from 5 grams to 325 grams; the mean absolute error was 0.2g, the worst error was 0.4 grams on a 225 weight which works out to 0.18% relative error. (I did not test weights bigger than 325, I ran out of nickel coins). A very good scale for the price.

Bench Gram Scale
I use this to weigh my animals as an amateur herpetologist breeding geckos and its very important to my records to have accuracy down to at least a tenth of a gram when I have new hatchlings that start out at less than two grams. This scale is very nice, though not consistent in readings across the whole bench platform. Too far to one side makes a difference in the reading. It would also be nice if it had a calibration button, but I purchased a 50 gram weight to be safe and for good reason. Fresh out of the box the scale has been of by .1 to .3 grams and I test it with the 50 gram weight before each use to know how off the reading will be at that time. I've seen much cheaper scales with this function so it would have been nice here.Overall it is very nice and the bench platform has made weighing my adult animals much easier.

This Is A Diamond In The Rough!!!!
This scale is really a diamond in the rough. I've had it for a couple of weeks, and have been periodically checking the accuracy of the scale and comparing it with another scale that I have. This scale is phenomenal. It calibrates in well, and holds its calibration. It then weighs accurately in both grams and in ounces. It's a marvel to behold.Pro's: Wide and relatively spacious weighing platform which is well balanced. I like the four little rubber feet that hold the unit in place and add to its stability. The plastics it's made from are all high quality plastics. Nice design. I like the software program it uses, but just the problem with the light going out too soon is its one flaw. Sturdy, solid design.Con's: Light on the unit goes off within about ten seconds or less. That is way too short. The display is too small, but fits with the overall design. It will be a useful scale to you for years to come, I'm sure. It's a well made unit, and it has quality manufacturing written all over it.

I swear I am not a drug dealer
Really - I don't deal drugs. I use this scale to weigh coffee for espresso. For the accuracy, capacity and price this is a great bargain which is why it got 4 stars. Were it not such a good price it would have received 3 stars for the following reasons:1. It is somewhat cheap feeling, however it IS cheap2. The stupid blue LCD screen is difficult to read standing up when the scale is on a counter - you have to lean down to see it.So, if you are a drug dealer who weighs his (or her's) drugs on a table whilst sitting on the floor this is perfect for you.If you are not a drug dealer and will be using this scale while standing up, the screen caveat is a bit annoying but I can put up with it for the price.I'm not a drug dealer - I swear.

Decent scale for sub Kilo mesurements
After several uses I would say that this scale is best suited for 100G measurements and above. I have noticed that the same object can vary in weight up to .3 grams, whether you are weighing a 10 gram measurement or an 800g measurement. That being said you will get better accuracy with larger batches, though for most people 0.3 grams will make little to no difference to your end results. Simple and easy to use. One other minor complaint is that the scale is hard to read if you are standing directly over it, the sweet spot on the LCD screen is at about a 45 degree angle so it prefers to be used on a table with you seated in from of it rather than standing over it.

decent for bottomless portafilters
I'm using it to weigh my portafilter for espresso. While I wish it were longer, the portafilter fits fine on the diagonal, with no apparent measurement errors. Given my La Marzocco bottomless weighs in the mid 500g range or so, I find the 1000g sufficient.I'm not sure how well this would work for spouted portafilters.

I've owned this scale for almost five years and I use it all the time.
It's great for weighing food for counting calories. Thanks in no small part to this scale and myfitnesspal, I've lost over 150 pounds in the last 2 years. I wouldn't use it for anything serious because it's a $20 digital scale. The relatively large top surface, clear display, and tare function make it very easy to weigh individual servings of different foods as you add them to a dinner plate. It has withstood the test of time as well. I think it was definitely a great purchase even though it was $30 when I bought mine in 2010.

Very accurate scale for weighing smaller things however it does ...
Very accurate scale for weighing smaller things however it does not go very high. It seems the accuracy was greatly decreased after 3 pounds but luckily I only needed this to weigh things that were just a couple of ounces and it did exactly what I needed.

Good choice for espresso making
Big enough scale surface for a portafilter. If you want to use it for espresso, get the 1000g version: a portafilter can wait over 500g. There's a big downside to this scale: it eats away at 9V batteries in a matter of weeks. I was lucky enough to find a 9V transformer in my junk bin that I could use with it.

Lasted a month
I purchased this scale for baking. After a month of use the digital display broke. I contacted the company about the "10 year warranty" and have yet to hear back. AWS has dropped in quality and customer service - stay clear.
